Trust me - this small, locally owned cupcake shop will change your life.

Cake Fetish sells only cupcakes, and with more than 35 kinds - not counting ones created for holidays - this is not the place for the calorie-counter.

Owner and cupcake guru Carrie Mettling said that on holidays, the bakery is busy all day. She said it sold out before noon on Mother's Day.

For St. Patty's Day, the shop had one cupcake made with Guinness and another made of Irish Cream. Many of the other cupcakes were dyed green to celebrate.

Mettling said the shop's most popular cupcake is the Velvet Elvis, so, of course, I had to sink my sweet tooth into that one. With a red velvet cake and cream-cheese icing, the Velvet Elvis was a hit. I also tried the Inside-Out German Chocolate, which had chocolate cake, chocolate butter-cream frosting and a pecan-toasted coconut filling with coconut shavings on top.

If you like German chocolate cake, this is the perfect to-go option. My absolute favorite was the Half-Baked cupcake. It had chocolate chip vanilla cake with vanilla butter-cream frosting and a gooey cookie-dough center.

These delectable morsels cost only $1.75 each. If you feel like sharing, you can get a half dozen for $10.50 and a dozen for $20. If you are a calorie-counter and still want to bask in deliciousness, Cake Fetish offers mini-cupcakes for 55 cents each or $6.50 a dozen.

If you are in the Coronado Mall area and jonesing for some sugar, pop in to Cake Fetish. Get a cup of Red Rock Roasters coffee and a cupcake, and settle in with a good book. It's a perfect way to spend a day.
