Editor,
I find it disgusting that UNM would shell out a salary of
$975,000 per year for a basketball coach who has yet to prove himself. However, I acknowledge that UNM has the right to pay its basketball coach however it pleases, and that any student who disapproves could simply transfer to another college.
That being said, there is still something not right about all of this. Last month, track and field coach Matt Henry announced his resignation to the dismay of everyone who has devoted time to the program. His reasoning was that the Athletics Department was not providing enough support to keep the program running.
I have a simple question: If UNM has the money lying around to pay for our new basketball coach, why does UNM not have the money to keep the track and field program afloat?
