Editor,
The letter by Dennis Kinzler in Wednesday's Daily Lobo points out the truth behind the attacks on evolution. It is not a scientific rebuttal to an accepted theory, but a shallow attempt to give religion more credence in the public sphere.
Sure, fine points about the workings of evolution are still debated in scientific circles, but the theory has long been accepted by scientists. It is only religious folk who claim that intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution. But intelligent design is a smokescreen for introducing Christianity into the classroom. I know it would be foolish to attempt to debate Kinzler and those like him on the validity of their beliefs, for a belief does not require logic in the first place. So, how can they be made to see reason? But please stop trying to warp impressionable minds with superstition. For it was the great Voltaire who once said, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." Take his advice
to heart.
