Music from Spring Storm a distraction, annoyance

Editor,

As much as Spring Storm offers an opportunity for students to volunteer their time, it also has negative impacts upon the UNM community.

We live in one of the SRCs alongside Johnson Field, and the music from Spring Storm was so loud Saturday that it was impossible to concentrate on schoolwork.

In fact, the bass was cranked up so loud that our windows were rattling and our walls were shaking for hours. We couldn't even hear our own music playing from several feet away.

Is it really necessary to blare the music so loudly that it can be heard - or even felt - from several blocks away?

We recognize that Spring Storm is meant to be a fun event, but for those of us preparing for the end of the term, the loud music is a distraction and annoyance that doesn't respect the need of students to study.

For those of us in campus housing, the dormitories are home and where we do our studying. Perhaps in the future, the event should be held at The Pit or someplace else where it does not interfere with studies or even just students' right to enjoy a bit of silence.
