Editor,
Yesterday was the last day to register to vote. Many students have chosen to register. About 600 registered yesterday. I say hooray to all those brave souls stepping courageously into the political arena in this election.
This letter is addressed to the other group of UNM students - the ones who, for whatever political reason, have chosen not to register over the last three months since organizations have been on campus. Shame on you. Regardless of your political affiliations, refusing to register to vote is foolish. Even assuming you have some extreme right- or left-wing politics that make both of the candidates seem unpalatable to you, it's within the realm of possibility that between now and Nov. 4, either or both of the candidates might do something to deeply impress you. You will have forfeited your ability to support a significant change in this country's direction. Registering to vote simply opens the option for voting; it does not force voting.
