Question of the Week

What would be the most effective way for UNM to enforce the smoking ban next year?

Joshua Brown

Sophomore

English

"I don't think there's going to be any way that they can actually enforce it, just based on the amount of students that do smoke.. Cops aren't going to just come give you a ticket just because you're smoking a cigarette. They have better things to do."

Derek Crook

Sophomore

Landscape and architecture

"I would have to say if you wanted to enforce it, you'd have to have all the campus security watching out for people smoking all the time. A better solution might be to have areas designated for smoking and have the general campus not smoke."

Amber Cooper

Senior

Psychology

"You can place nonsmoking signs. You can enforce it just by having the proper authority ask people to put their cigarettes out."

Theresa Hyde

Graduate student

Biology

"I think designated areas would be the best idea. I'm not really for or against smoking on campus, just as long as people are responsible for their butts, as far as litter. That's the only thing I'm worried about."
