Editor,
I wish to thank the University again for showing us how out of touch with the community it really is. The news of a recent hiring this week of a football coach for zillions of dollars when we have temp employees terrified they will not be able to pay mortgages and insurance payments as of the first of the year is shocking.
The mere $7.50 an hour they slap these people with is an insult for the amount of work they accomplish. It is horrifying and insulting to tell them their contracts cannot be renegotiated at this time because of a hiring and spending freeze. Then, at the same time, the University hires a person who in all likelihood will either quit or be removed once he gets more bonuses, just like every one of his predecessors.
All the fat at the top of this pile is making it look a lot like the auto and banking executives: too top-heavy to float. We need professors and necessary infrastructure like customer support to survive, not some glam bling-bling to flaunt in front of the working poor. Throw the working poor a bone from your steak-and-lobster-dinner plate. You have everything, and we eat nothing.
