For Your Ears

Slightly Stoopid, Marlon Asher, Mondo Vibrations
Sunshine Theater

Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 8 p.m.
13
$25
Let’s face the facts: Slightly Stoopid is great music for people who like to listen to Sublime. If you don’t like Sublime, don’t even bother with this band. Slightly Stoopid’s relaxed reggae is the perfect fit for those missing that classic ‘90s band.

For Your Consideration: The pair of horns and reverb bouncing throughout “Don’t Stop” makes for a reggae tune best listened to on a lazy Sunday.

Wildewood, Russell James Pyle & The Safety Committee, Sean Lucy & Family
Low Spirits

Friday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m.
21
$5
Wildewood takes its time with its music. Much as a food connoisseur enjoys every bite, this laid-back Southern band relishes every note played.

For Your Consideration: “And I Fell” crawls to the finish line in this 7-minute track, as the band’s stand-up bass plucks quietly beside the bluesy lead guitar.

Glossary, Telegraph Canyon, Albuquerque Boys Choir
Low Spirits

Monday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m.
21
$5
Glossary plays Southern indie rock, with a twinge of Americana and blues that would make Bruce Springsteen proud. Glossary has garnered quite a few fans over the years, including musician and indie-god Conor Oberst, who says the group is his favorite band.

For Your Consideration: Glossary’s “Heart Full of Wanna” is a lively rock song, best for long drives down the interstate.

Calexico, Trampled by Turtles, Bahamas
Sunshine Theater

Sunday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
13
$25
The music of Calexico sounds as if it were born from the deserts of the Southwest. Hushed vocals, piano and percussion fill out this rather atmospheric rock band.

For Your Consideration: Lead singer Joey Burns quietly narrates “Two Silver Trees,” as listeners take a slow walk through a lone desert.

Broadway Calls, Silver Snakes, The Ill Motion
The Gasworks

Monday, Jan. 21, time to be announced
All ages
Ticket price at the door
Oregon natives Broadway Calls is a pop-punk band that hits all the criteria for a decent band in its genre. Catchy choruses, nasal lyrics and punk rock anthems are to be expected.

For Your Consideration: “To the Sheets” is the pop-punk musical equivalent of a room full of bros high-fiving each other. Sure, the song’s final chorus is a bit cheesy and overly positive, but it’s difficult to not want to join in.

The Jealous Sound, Ghost Circles, Sweet Weapons
Launchpad

Sunday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m.
21
$5
While their name might be fairly unknown, The Jealous Sound’s first album in 2000 went on to influence alternative rock for the next decade. When artists like the Foo Fighters go out of their way to reform a band like The Jealous Sound, you know you should probably check it out.

For Your Consideration: “Abandon! Abandon!” is a rock tune that’s easy on the ears, with guitar lines and vocals that lightly melt together.
