Public urination leads to man’s arrest

On Aug. 21, a police officer was dispatched to the bus stop at the north end of the Duck Pond regarding a man who was urinating in public. Upon arrival, the officer observed the man as described by the dispatch and approached him. The man “was emanating a smell that was consistent with the smell of alcoholic beverages,” according to the report. After further investigation, the officer identified the man as having two outstanding arrest warrants. UNMPD arrested the man and he was transported to the APD Prisoner Transport Center.

Hate letter left on car in A Lot parking area

Eds. Note: the spelling of ‘San-N*gger’ appears as written in the police report.

On Aug. 22, a UNMPD officer was dispatched to the Student Residence Center regarding a “hate crime.” According to the police report, the victim, who parked his car in a handicapped parking space in the A Lot, received a handwritten note from someone stating he needs to “quit using his ‘grandmother’s’ parking pass.”

According to the report, the writer of the note also “hinted that his tires might keep their air if he complied.”

According to the report, the victim allegedly was involved in another “hate crime” in April when somebody had written the word “San-N*gger” on the door to his dorm room. The officer advised him to leave subsequent notes untouched so police could obtain evidence. The case is closed pending further leads.

Teacher victim of sexual harassment

On Aug. 23, a male professor reported an incident of sexual harassment to UNMPD. The professor, who teaches English classes twice a week to more than 20 students, allegedly received emails of “explicit sexual acts” repeatedly. The email’s sender allegedly told him in the email that he “was ‘really going to enjoy this class,’ which caused him to believe it came from one of his students.” According to the report, the second email addressed the professor using his middle name.

The victim is allegedly “having a hard time with work as he feels uncomfortable going to class.” The case is closed pending further leads.

Outstanding arrest warrants served

On Aug. 22, a UNMPD officer was on foot patrol at the Duck Pond when he “reached the southern portion of the park and observed … persons engaging in sexual intercourse,” according to a police report. Concerned, the officer approached the couple and asked the woman whether the man forced to have sex with her. The woman responded that the man was her boyfriend and that they were “in love.”
