UNM placed no. 181 in U.S. News and World Report’s annual list of best colleges this year, down from 179 from last year. How do you feel about this?

Mariah Garcia
Sign language interpreting, freshman

“I went to the New Mexico Military Institute and the academics were a lot harder there. So here, I feel like it’s kind of easy for me. But I really like the environment, the people and just the overall campus, so I feel (UNM’s ranking) could be higher.”

Christine Campbell
Biology, sophomore

“I think it’s pretty accurate. I mean, UNM is a good school.”

Michael Porter
Mechanical engineering, freshman

“It’s not a bad ranking, compared to how many colleges there are. But definitely, under 100 would be better for me.”

Joe Lamendola
Psychology, junior

“That’s very low. That’s assuming we’re third in the state, if it’s an average of three per state. So I would hope that we would score a little bit higher.”

Xuexia Bruton
Chemical engineering, freshman

“I like it a lot. It deserves that. I like the professors. There’s a really good education here, and students are looking for a good program. They’ll probably find it here.”
