Students cited for blazing it in Coronado, police say
On Sept. 20, a UNMPD officer was dispatched to Coronado Hall regarding students smoking marijuana. According to the report, a resident adviser told the officer upon arrival that during a hallway check, she smelled the odor of marijuana outside a certain room. When the adviser knocked on the room’s door, the occupants allegedly took “several minutes” to open up, according to the adviser.
The report states that the room’s occupants denied using marijuana in the room to the officer, but allegedly admitted to smoking the drug at a different location earlier that night. A report was filed against the students and submitted to the Dean of Students’ Office.

The officer found ground-up prickly pear blossoms in both locations, according to the report. Police estimated the cost of cleanup to be less than $1,000, but it is unclear whether the graffiti caused permanent damage. The case is closed pending further leads.
Public drug use interrupted by officer, report states
On Sept. 22, UNMPD officers were dispatched to the area between Scholes Hall and Mitchell Hall with regard to two men allegedly smoking marijuana in public. The report states that upon arrival, a police officer observed the men sitting on the grass, but the two did not see the officer. After a few minutes of watching, the officer reported observing one of the men raising “a small pipe that I recognized to be a glass marijuana pipe to his lips and proceeded to light the pipe.” At that moment, the men noticed the approaching officer and then tried to hide the pipe, according to the report.
The officer then reportedly asked the men to surrender the pipe that one of the men was allegedly trying to conceal. The man complied, and the two admitted to having smoked the drug, according to the report. The officer reportedly issued two non-traffic citations to one of the men, and tagged the items for evidence. The report states that police advised them to “seek some help at Student Health for their substance abuse.” A report of the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Students’ Office, and the case was cleared by arrest.
