Book review: Erotic book features happy endings

I’m not really one to read erotic books.

I have nothing against them, and I know plenty of people who find excitement in reading tales of the kinky, but I’m just not one of them. When I first opened “The Big Book of Orgasms: 69 Sexy Stories,” I wasn’t quite sure what I was in for.

What I found was a unique collection of 1,200 word stories that all end with an orgasm.

From there, the stories accelerate at a moderate pace, until readers are in the throes of ecstasy.

The collection is filled with top-notch writing, from Thomas S. Roche’s “How You Christen a Bed,” about a women who breaks a bed in all by herself, to “Scarecrow,” Giselle Renarde’s tale of a newly married couple who find an interesting way to spice up their sex-life – in the garden.

These stories focus on the delight in sexual exploration and pleasure; it eschews the guilt and shame often connected to naughty adventures.

“Orgasm” is unapologetic in its sexual exploits, but still gentle. The book eases the reader into the rhythm of the stories. The first, entitled “The Beginning” by B.D. Swain, is the tale of a lesbian couple exploring the shallowest edges of bondage and control. The narrator is tied to a chair, while her partner moves about the room, sometimes playing a solo act on the bed, sometimes touching her partner.

There is a story for everyone; same sex, opposite sex, transgender, domination, submission and even threesomes are represented in at least one beautifully crafted story.

Overall, “Orgasm” is a clever collection of carnal tales. Perhaps not the kind of book one should read straight through, but certainly a worthwhile one, if not for the narratives themselves, then for the wealth of ideas they provide.

As a special bonus, “Orgasm’s” editor Rachel Kramer Bussel will be teaching Erotica 101 tonight at Self Serve Toys. The two and a half hour-long class will teach budding authors how to craft their own intense tales.
