Student reports spare tire stolen at South Lot

On Nov. 14, the parent of a UNM student called the UNM Police Department with regard to a possible larceny. A 2006 Hummer, which the student borrowed from her parent that day, was missing a spare tire valued at more than $1,000, according to the report. Upon arrival, a UNMPD officer received a report from a JLS security guard who allegedly witnessed a car stopped behind the Hummer and a man who was removing parts from the Hummer.

Officers gathered evidence and scanned the area but did not locate the suspect. The case is closed pending further leads.

UNMH workers report abuse by new patient

On Nov. 15, police were dispatched to UNM Hospital in reference to a battery incident regarding a health care worker. Upon arrival, the officer corresponded with three hospital employees, who stated that the patient under suspicion of battery was brought to UNMH by ambulance.

According to the witnesses, the patient “struck and spit” on an employee attempting to measure his blood pressure. The patient also threw his jacket at the employees and spat repeatedly on another employee, witnesses said.

When the patient continued to be violent, the workers restrained and sedated him, according to the report. Witnesses told police that although the patient was on medication, the drugs he was taking were not supposed to produce mind-altering effects. An employee signed a Notice of Intent to prosecute and testify. The case has been referred to the District Attorney’s Office.

Booths robbed over night, merchants say

On Nov. 17, UNMPD officers were called to the Student Union Building in response to a reported burglary. Upon arrival, officers spoke with one of the building managers, who said that various building employees lost property overnight during a multi-day event at the SUB. The event featured vendors and booths in one of the ballrooms and ended at 6 p.m., according to the report.

Police identified six victims, who completed written statements. A victim who was a vendor at the event said her booth had been “ransacked and (her) merchandise gone through,” according to the report. Another victim told police that jewelry and merchandise had been stolen from his booth.

The building manager told police that one of the other employees had misplaced his building keys “some time ago.” Police also obtained employees’ shift schedules from the building manager. According to the report, the total value of the stolen items amounted to $5,431. No further information is available about the case at this time.
