We hold the key to be a blessed nation

Editor,

What has the world come to? In looking at the news today I came the conclusion that our world has come to a point in time that we do not deserve God’s continued grace and restraint.

Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…,” but today I wonder if the United States has gone too far.  Look at a sampling of today’s news:

“Former VA Gov. Indicted on Corruption… 55 Million Abortions Since Roe… Woman beaten to death after accidentally walking in front of camera while group posed for photo… Archdiocese Hid Decades of Child Sex Abuse… Companies slip subliminal messages for stoners into ads… Video game is ‘murder simulator like no other’… French study shows majority cheat…”

This is not even the tip of the iceberg, but it is a representation of our declining morality as a societal whole. Think back 50 years and you would not see the depravity that we see today. Now I am not naive enough to think that these types of things did not happen, but I am going out on a limb to say they did not occur with the frequency and they were not accepted as commonplace as they are today.

So what do we do? What as a nation can we do to turn the tide, or do we even care. Well first, I believe we need to all start taking responsibility for our own actions. Yes, I may not be able to stop the atrocities listed above, but I can keep myself from committing another atrocity.

Jesus taught those who were alive in his day the following, which is recorded in Matthew 5:3-11: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: … Blessed are they that mourn: … Blessed are the meek: … Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’; sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.”

And I think when we have enough people who fall in the blessed category by accomplishing the above; we will again have a nation that will be blessed. We have the pattern of what to do! In these verses and throughout the Bible, God has given us the instructions for life. Sadly, many of us do not know that we have the answer to every question at our disposal.

God is the author of that wonderful book of answers, and I want to challenge each of you to examine that living book for yourself. God paid the ultimate price so that we could live a life for His glory, give it a shot. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at www.unmbible.com
