Letter: Pro-life abortions could become a consequence of costly medicine

Editor,

The price for a single pill to actually cure an increasing number of otherwise fatal illnesses is jumping to astronomical levels in the United States — what’s ahead? Poor and pregnant women in the future who are seriously pro-life finding themselves spending less than the cost of a pill to have a sophisticated DNA test done on their fetus, and then choosing to abort when the kid-to-be is found genetically predisposed strongly to be born with or soon develop such fatal illnesses? And mommy knows she would not afford even a single pill, and her guilt in letting her kid die from that would be more than the guilt from aborting?

Sincerely,

Arun Anand Ahuja

UNM student
