Editor,
Shakespeare famously asked the world through the character Hamlet whether it was better to live or die: Hamlet said, “To be, or not to be, that is the question.”
Well, in the arena of Middle East politics, this question is deadly serious as more and more blood is being spilled in the name of humanitarian intervention or fighting terror. However, for some the attempts by President Obama or others of his ilk to claim that they wish to overthrow, bomb and send ground troops into the Middle East in order to save people and bring freedom is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
The leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khamenei, summed up the dilemma facing Middle Eastern nations quite well in regards to dealing with the American empire. He said, “The truth is that U.S.’s objectives regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran have not changed at all, and they would not spare a moment if they could destroy the Islamic Republic, but they can’t.”
The bottom line here is that the U.S. government, whether it has a Republican or Democratic administration, seeks to topple any government in the world that doesn’t bend its knee to the orders of Washington.
One last point of clarification that should be made is that when different governments around the world state their opposition to certain foreign policies of the U.S. government, this should not be misconstrued as an attack on the American people. In this regard Khamenei said, “The slogan ‘death to America’ is backed by reason and wisdom, and it goes without saying that the slogan does not mean death to the American nation: this slogan means death to the U.S.’s policies, death to arrogance.”
The American people must become aware of the difficult truth that today many nations in the world view the American government as the biggest threat to world peace. In response to the various threats from the American empire, some nations have found their inner Hamlet and decided “to be.”
Sincerely,
