Letters: Governments can now use mass marketing to track and suppress dissidents

Editor,

The world of mass marketing has been extend to digital billboards displaying political campaign ads that clandestinely read facial expressions of observing voters in places like Mexico City, so that future ads can be tailored to get their votes.

What next? Places like Islamist Iran, Communist Russia and China, and, most recently, even Democratic India, that are currently suppressing political dissent, solve the need to crudely imprison and torture by refining this closed-loop feedback with the addition of a real-time “re-educator” box that inserts subliminal messages tweaking your mind to conformism through bathroom signboards keeping you from boredom on the potty at centers serving social justice activists?

Sincerely,

Arun Anand Ahuja
