What is it like being on campus during the summer months?
Marcus Thrush, senior, journalism and mass communication

“More of the general community comes to campus in the summer to avoid the rush of students during fall and spring semesters. There are some students on campus taking summer classes, but it definitely slows down a lot.”
Erik Sonnenberg, senior, mechanical engineering

“Campus is less stressful in the summer. I’m not really a people person. The libraries are much quieter.”
Autumn Iver, senior, art studio

“I think it’s nice when it’s less hectic and crowded on campus. Summer classes are smaller so you get more one on one time with your professors.”

Betsy Summers, graduate student, civil engineering

“I guess what I like about the summer is that campus slows down and I’m able to focus on my research, which is important in terms of graduating. I’m not pulled in many directions with other classes. I use routes more populated on campus during the summer. I stay away from small building alleyways. I know where people who aren’t students hang out, and I avoid those areas. There are safety concerns, but generally, during the day I think campus is pretty safe. It’s only rare moments that it’s not.”
