Men's basketball: Preseason ends with win

All five New Mexico starters reached double figures as the Lobos won their second preseason exhibition game before the regular season begins. Forward Cameron Bairstow led the pack with 16 points and nine rebounds in UNM’s 94-51 victory over Jamestown Wednesday night at The Pit.

Basketball recruit Cheatham chooses SDSU over UNM

All it took was the zip of a jacket for the New Mexico basketball team to lose out on Zylan Cheatham. Cheatham, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Arizona, unzipped his jacket to unveil a San Diego State T-shirt. That signaled he had chosen San Diego State over Washington University and conference rival UNM.

UNM men take first Australian exhibition

Kicking off a three-game exhibition tour in Australia Monday, the New Mexico men’s basketball team overcame an 11-point second-half deficit Monday to beat the Sydney Kings 87-85 at Bankstown Basketball Stadium in Sydney, according to a press release.

New Mexico center Alex Kirk and forward Cameron Bairstow finished their runs at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia on Thursday. Bairstow played for the silver medal-winning Australian team, and he averaged a team-leading 12.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

UNM men boast strong nonconference hoops slate

If the nonconference schedule is any indication, coach Craig Neal’s Lobos won’t shy away from tough competition this coming season. New Mexico will play at least four non-Mountain West teams that reached last spring’s NCAA tournament, all over the course of 17 days.
