The 105th installment of the Rio Grande Rivalry witnessed the New Mexico football team’s offense at its best. UNM dominated longtime in-state rival New Mexico State in a 66-17 rout on Saturday, tying the school record for most points scored against the Aggies.

Lobos defense bounces back vs. weaker NMSU

Brett Bowers entered Saturday’s postgame press conference in much higher spirits than he did the previous week. Stomping an in-state rival by 49 points will do that. “I just got a big smile on my face. Played a lot better,” said Bowers, a junior linebacker.

Lobos favored to beat longtime rival NMSU

At Tuesday’s weekly media luncheon, Bob Davie was quick to squelch any expectations for his recuperating New Mexico football team. When a reporter asked whether his team should be expected to beat New Mexico State on Saturday, Davie appeared completely shocked by the question.

Win on yards, loss on points

The New Mexico football team’s offense came to play against UNLV on Saturday, but the defense was nowhere to be found. UNM (1-3) had three rushers go over the century mark for the first time in school history in quarterback Cole Gautsche, running back Kasey Carrier and wide receiver Carlos Wiggins.

Lobos rushing attack fails vs. UTSA

There was something missing from the New Mexico football team on Saturday. The Lobos’ vaunted rushing attack, which ranked fifth in the nation last season, didn’t have much of an impact against the University of Texas-San Antonio in a 21-13 loss at University Stadium.

Opener against UTSA will test underclassmen

To say that the New Mexico football team is antsy to play its first game of the season would be an understatement. The Lobos officially begin the season this Saturday against the University of Texas-San Antonio at University Stadium. However, for senior center Dillon Farrell, it won’t be his first time facing the Roadrunners.
