Editor, I was totally dismayed by the Oct. 28 editorial cartoon. I am a passionate defender of free speech, but this was just so wrong on so many levels.
Editor, I believe that the record should be set straight as to the facts about capitalism and liberty. This rhetoric infects a large proportion of our population with the long-held belief that capitalism is at the heart of our woes.
Editor, What have we done to our children and grandchildren? We have destroyed their economic future by demanding politicians give us legislation that makes us happy. The cost of our happiness is the $13.6 trillion debt put on the nation’s credit card — our children’s card.
Editor, It’s proven that college makes you gain weight. The “freshman 15” is the dreaded statistic we hear entering college life.
Editor, I have much more pressing matters to attend to, but my disappointment in the Daily Lobo’s continual lack of editorial oversight in regards to the playful — albeit ignorant — columns of Culture Editor Chris Quintana will extend my procrastination evermore. Wednesday’s column, “It’s Not A Stereotype If You Get It,” asserts that any individual we encounter, we subconsciously label as a “fag,” “terrorist,” “jock,” whatever — but that we should assume the validity of our presumptions before delving into the interpersonal interactions that unveil these peoples’ true colors.
Editor, Judging by the reaction to this year’s UNM football season, I have realized something troubling.
Editor, An Open Letter to the NM Jewish Federation, UNM Hillel, and the Anti-Defamation League: In recent weeks, the directors of the Jewish Federation of New Mexico and UNM Hillel co-wrote a letter to two UNM departments discouraging them from sponsoring Palestinian American Ali Abunimah’s Nov.
Editor, Is there any logic to Kyle Farris’ article on voting? He is unhappy with the way things are; he wants to change it.
Editor, I am upset on this particular occasion by reporter Alexandra Swanberg’s column, “Hardcore reunion incites riotous fun.” Swanberg writes, “In recent years, there’s been an alarming trend among male vocalists who wail, scream and whine, emotionally bleeding all over their audience.
Editor, Can marriage stand the test of time? If you choose to get married before the age of 25, it seems less likely.
Editor, If you asked me a week ago what topic I would most likely write about in a letter to the editor, my reply would have probably been something about the epidemic of LGBTQI suicides, the UNM budget cuts, or Susana Martinez’s confusing politics.
Editor, While many American citizens are baffled at the anger of the Muslim world toward the U.S. government — not the Muslim people — the stalled peace process in the Middle East is instructive. The Israeli government claims that it wishes to see the creation of a Palestinian state, but at the same time, it refuses to stop the construction of new settlements.
Editor, Not only did Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez or her representatives not attend UNM’s Forum on Higher Education, apparently she lacks college-level language skills as well.
Editor, I’d like to praise reporter Barron Jones for his coverage on the young Democrats rally on Sunday.
Editor, Let’s talk homosexuality and religion. For most of my life, I have heard many Christians speak in a derogatory manner about homosexuality.
Editor, I am interested in whether the Daily Lobo staff contains true journalists or just pawns of a large government-run university.
Editor, Ruben Hamming-Green’s piece, “Lessons paused to address budget,” provided us with a perfect example of how the current administration is the master of spin as far as the budget is concerned.
Editor, October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. In 1983, the life expectancy of a person born with Down syndrome was 25 years.
Editor, The SFRB Task Force’s decision is janky. Yes, that’s right; it’s janky. This letter is a response to the Daily Lobo article, “ASUNM hastily passes fee resolution.” If you are only reading this to find out what the word janky means, you will probably give this article about as much thought as the Student Fee Review Board was allowed to have concerning the monumental ruling it is being required to make.
