Dear Dr. Peg, I live with my roommate, Ted. He smokes a lot of pot and regularly uses painkillers and ecstasy. He isn't doing bad in school and is very normal otherwise. Should I help him to quit, or is there anything to worry about? Dear Ted's pal, You are in a tough spot.

For Section Quartet violinist Eric Gorfain, rock 'n' roll is played from the heart. "There's so much about the performance and the moment," he said. "It's about conveying what you are feeling." The Section Quartet will perform Friday at Puccini's Golden West Saloon.

New Mexico lacks an abundant supply of water, said Tim Ward, assistant vice president for research. "We're situated in a region where water is very critical," Ward said. "It's very critical because we often don't have enough and sometimes get too much at one time - it's either feast or famine.

On-campus food selection has support of some students

Aramark, UNM's food-service provider, may have taken flak from students, but some are happy with the dining on campus. Eli Gendron said the food at La Posada, UNM's dining hall, could be better, but it isn't bad considering it's mass-produced. "It's decent," he said.

CEO talks to aspiring entrepreneurs

You can't run a successful business if you're not a good leader, an Albuquerque entrepreneur said. "If you want to start a company, want to be an entrepreneur, it really is all about leadership," said Jim McNally, CEO of TruTouch Technologies. McNally spoke to about 40 students Friday at the Anderson Schools of Management.

Lobos lose lead in final minutes

The UNM women's basketball team had No. 18 Utah on the ropes but faltered in the closing minutes, falling 57-53 on Saturday at The Pit. The defeat marked the second time this season that the Lobos held a double-digit lead against Utah. UNM dropped a 60-57 road game at Utah on Jan.

Editor, This is in response to Don Schrader's letter published in Tuesday's Daily Lobo. We know Schrader has strong opinions on many subjects, and we see the logic in many of them. His pride and reasoning behind refusing to vote, however, escapes us. We know Schrader is a particularly outspoken advocate against the war in Iraq.

Students put on play to help women in need

UNM law students used the stage to raise money for women in need. Over the weekend, the School of Law put on "The Vagina Monologues," a play about the joys, tragedies and everyday lives of women around the world. Law student Esteli Cotto, who organized the performance, said she wants the play to become a tradition for the law school.

Baseball sweeps Eagles at home in season opener

The UNM baseball team couldn't have fared much better against Eastern Michigan over the weekend. The Lobos swept the defending Mid-America Conference Champion Eagles in a four-game series at Isotopes Park in their first action of the season. "It's pretty hard to sweep a team of that caliber," head coach Ray Birmingham said.

Raza Graduation rewards underrepresented students

Editor, Luke Marczak wrote a letter published in the Daily Lobo on Feb. 18 in which he raised concerns on Raza Graduation. He asked for one thing specifically: objectivity. Well Marczak, here it goes. According to the U.S. Census, in 2007, of the 86 percent of adults nationwide who reported finishing high school, only 29 percent had college degrees.

Win gives Lobos momentum (Podcast)

The UNM men's basketball team is set for its biggest showdown of the season after a thrilling road win on Saturday. The Lobos held off Utah 72-71 on Saturday and will take on Mountain West Conference-leading BYU at The Pit on Tuesday. "This is what you play the season for - to get to this point of the season and still have a lot to play for," UNM head coach Steve Alford said.

Aramark contract up for renewal, stirs controversy

Students are asking UNM to cancel the school's contract with Aramark. Aramark is an international company that provides food services to large venues such as stadiums, businesses and schools. UNM signed a contract with the company in 2000, aiming to consolidate campus food services.
