Soccer's stingy defense cliches conference title

A scoreless draw may not be the most awe-inspiring way to win a conference championship, but the UNM men's soccer team will take it. The Lobos won their fourth straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship after a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Denver on Sunday. With the draw, UNM will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row.

AP: Turnovers lead to Lobos' loss

by Doug Alden The Associated press SALT LAKE CITY - Utah coach Kyle Whittingham felt like he was having flashbacks. The Utes' 14-point lead Saturday against New Mexico had dwindled to four points, and Whittingham was vividly remembering what happened a year ago in Albuquerque.

Bin location change hasn't made it harder to recycle

Editor, I'd like to respond to James Connolly's letter published in the Daily Lobo on Thursday about recycling bins and sustainability. It's obvious that Connolly was upset by the changes in the location of recycling bins in Northrop Hall. Yes, the state fire marshal required recycling bins to be removed from the halls, but the recycling department worked diligently with the building coordinator to locate substitute sites to place the bins.

Students test knowledge at trivia bowl

Football and basketball weren't the only UNM teams competing over the weekend. Thirteen teams of students tested their knowledge Saturday in a round of College Bowl, a trivia challenge that mimics games like Trivial Pursuit, "Jeopardy!" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

Basic research shows that global warming is natural

Editor, After researching global warming, it seems that natural events cause most of it, despite all the fear thrust upon us by professors and the global warming crowd. I have found some interesting studies and articles to prove this point that emanate from scientists.

The University should show respect for pagan holidays

Editor, This letter is addressed to UNM President David Schmidly. My name is Joseph Bell, and I'm a psychology student at UNM. As I understand it, "establishment of goals and policies to guide the University and oversight of the functioning of the University" is a role carried out by your offices.

Environmentalists shouldn't hassle debt-ridden students

Editor, I'm sick and tired of constantly being asked if I have a moment to spare for the environment by people with clipboards who stand around campus all day long. No, I don't have any money for you, so buzz off. Every day, they bombard me, desperately trying to get me to donate money.

Don't look to Bible for history

by Richard M. Berthold Daily Lobo columnist I have remained out of the ongoing debate on evolution versus intelligent design, because it is simply silly. As Thomas Aquinas discovered, reason and faith are separate orders of truth, and ultimately, neither can budge the other.

Smoking ban debate can be resolved with compromise

Editor, I know many people must be sick and tired of hearing about the possible smoking ban on campus, but I have a few thoughts to share. First of all, I am not a smoker, but I think it would be ridiculous to try to ban smoking on campus. I used to work in a restaurant where many people smoked, and they would go crazy if they didn't get their smoke break.
