Eight sacks, three turnovers and one late meaningless touchdown pass. The UNM football team cooked up an offensive recipe for disaster Saturday night in its 27-17 loss to the Missouri Tigers.

Letter: Textbook prices reason behind Bookstore theft

Editor, What would drive 18 intelligent, driven, employed students to participate in common theft? The ridiculously high price of books, of course. It should be a big red flag that something is wrong with our system when one of the "most intricate incidents ever" at UNM involves stealing and selling educational textbooks.

Letter: Multiculturalism integral part of American culture

Editor, After reading Damian Erasmus's letter to the Daily Lobo on Friday, I was very upset to see that this article came from a UNM alumnus. He should know better. The U.S. is a multicultural country, and the people of the U.S. are proud of who they are and where they come from.

Letter: Evidence for evolution deserves consideration

Editor, In a letter published last Friday in the Daily Lobo, Carolyn Johnson spoke out against the teaching of evolution as a fact and gave some reasons to support the theory of creationism instead. However, while I neither agree nor disagree with Johnson, I can't help but point out that the reasons given by many supporters of creationism are just as insubstantial as their reasons for condemning evolution.

Letter: Protest an effective way to make your voice heard

Editor, In Thursday's Daily Lobo, Shelly Sintas described protesting as "a lazy way to make your opinion known." She also claims that if you don't vote, your government won't listen to you. But what if you felt as if your vote wasn't counted and you sat back silently? There were countless voting irregularities in 2004, notably right here in New Mexico, where nearly 20,000 ballots curiously didn't designate a presidential vote.

Soccer team set for No.1 SMU

The last time a No. 1 team came to the UNM Soccer Complex, the Lobos won, vaulting them into the top 10 in the rankings. Since that 1-0 double-overtime victory over No. 1 Indiana on Sept. 19, 2004, UNM has remained in the top 25.

Letter: Textbooks contain fiction, not fact, about evolution

Editor, I would like to address those students who have taken or are currently enrolled in anthropology or any other class that teaches evolution. If you don't already know, these classes present this topic as if it were a fact. Let me assure you this topic is not a fact - it is a belief.

Letter: Teaching multiculturalism sows anti-Western beliefs

Editor, It is fascinating to read the half-truths and misconceptions advanced by many within these pages and this University. One of the biggest misconceptions that I've been forced to swallow is that of multiculturalism. That is, that other cultures should be considered equal to U.

Letter: Wal-Mart brings benefits to America's communities

Editor, Readers may appreciate a correction following the inaccurate column about Wal-Mart that appeared in the Sept. 6 issue of the Daily Lobo. First, unlike other retail employers, Wal-Mart offers coverage to both full-time and part-time associates, who can become eligible for coverage for as little as $23 per month anywhere in the country.

In search of student regent

Being a student regent at UNM gives students a chance to make a difference, said Rosalyn Nguyen, student regent. Student regents can be involved with and have influence over parts of the University that students usually aren't involved with, she said.

Letter: Protesting doesn't solve America's social problems

Editor, In spite of himself, Brian Fejer did have a good idea about Sept. 11, 2001, in his letter in Tuesday's Daily Lobo. It's time we as Americans do something besides maintain a quiet, one-hour vigil once a year. However, I do not agree with Fejer's protest ideas.
