Chicano/a Studies still without new director

Members of the steering committee charged with making recommendations about the search for a new director position for the Chicano/a Studies program decided Wednesday to not recommend the position's lone candidate to the dean of University College. "I'm going to have to go and speak with the provost of the University and speak to the steering committee of Chicano Studies about where to go from here and about what resources are available or about what resources we might secure," said Peter White, dean of University College.

UNM walk out part of national campaign

LETTER: Smoking hazards foolishly ignored

Editor, Our government closes down, puts on notice, and fines restaurants for guacamole and Alfredo sauce that isn't the correct temperature. Our government gets involved when a restaurant uses wiping cloths improperly. Our government demands that restaurants that are open to the public (and are therefore public places,) not store food near cleaning products, clean their ice machines and supply paper towels to their customers.

Granger denies tampering charge

Lobo basketball newcomer Danny Granger addressed the media for the first time Tuesday. Granger has been at the center of controversy since arriving in Albuquerque days before the spring semester began. Members of the Bradley University coaching staff, who claim that UNM tampered with NCAA rules in acquiring the big man, have publicly scrutinized Granger and the Lobo coaching staff.

LETTER: Green's party status ignored

Editor, The latest attempt in the ongoing attempt to litigate, legislate and re-interpret the Green Party off the ballot has passed two house committees and will soon be on its way to the state Senate. House Bill 628 increases the registration threshold for major party status, not by doubling or tripling it, but by a whopping 30-fold or 3,000 percent increase! If this draconian requirement were in place elsewhere the Democrats would not have full-ballot access in Utah nor would Republicans in the District of Columbia.
