Some UNM Chicano students claim that the University isn't listening to their input on the search for a new director of the Chicano/a Studies Program -- a concern that led to a heated meeting between students and officials Thursday. The students, along with several members of the Chicano community, met Thursday and expressed their concerns to numerous University officials.
As a sign of KUNM radio's considerable growth, the position of program director has been reinstated. Marcos Martinez, the station's news director for nearly 20 years, was appointed to the position Monday. "Our hope is that it will enable us to run more smoothly and continue to improve and increase our community involvement," Martinez said.
Editor, Last week, you printed an article by Keith Hudson titled "U.S. Must Take Action." In it Mr. Hudson accused Saddam Hussein of invading Iran for oil, killing innocent people and bullying other countries. All of these accusations are true. Hussein invaded Iran in the '80s.
College basketball is a 40-minute game. Playing only 30 minutes, on average, constitutes a loss, especially during the conference schedule. This scenario has been the storyline for this season's New Mexico men's basketball squad. While staying competitive in all of their six conference games, the Lobos have not gotten over the hump, winning just one.

The city has begun installing $100,000 worth of pedestrian countdown signals at several intersections in Albuquerque -- including at some of the most heavily used crosswalks around campus. The signals are being installed in two phases. The city is finishing the project's first phase, which began about two weeks ago, and should begin the second one by next month.
