Gary Johnson won first place in the Nancy Dickerson Whitehead awards for excellence in reporting this year. The debate, which took place in September and was taped before 600 people, was titled Directing America's Drug War: Which way to a Safer Society? as part of the NPR show Justice Talking.

The Tricklock Company will spnosor its third annual Revolutions International Theatre Festival. Theater companies from six different countries will present more than 35 performances for 20 days at eight venues throughout the city.
Don Flanagan, head coach of the UNM women's basketball team, said he considered Saturday's match-up against Weber State University to be a warm-up for Mountain West Conference play. If the Lobos' 70-57 win was a mere warm-up, then expect center Jordan Adams to be a force in the MWC this season.

Staff Report UNMPD detectives are investigating a daytime burglary at the Maxwell Museum that netted three items estimated to be worth $1,500. The burglary occurred Dec. 4, between 12:30 p.m. and 3:45, when a male entered the museum, walked around the gift shop and then pried and broke the glass of a display case to get to the items inside.
Staff Report The UNM swimming and diving team opened 2003 with two dominating wins over the University of Houston and the Air Force Academy this weekend to raise their records to 7-1 overall and 4-2 in the Mountain West Conference. Friday, the Lobos easily handled Houston, downing the Cougars 142-101.

The Lobos had to settle for breaking the Division-I gender barrier and giving the University of California at Los Angeles a game before falling to the Bruins 27-13.
Editor, I appreciate your recent article and attention to the issue of pedestrian safety. I believe this is an important issue, both on main and north campus. As a staff member and student, I spend quite a bit of time walking on campus. I would like to point out two other crosswalks that I feel are dangerous for those of us on north campus.
