New Mexico took home the Mountain West crown Saturday night in traditional UNM style – an explosive offense that scores in bunches. Though not as dramatic as most walk-offs are, UNM finished the game in the seventh inning with a game-winning single from third baseman Carl Stajduhar. The two-run RBI single sent the UNM bench rushing to the field as conference champions in a 14-4 route over the Nevada Wolfpack.

Though inclement weather prevented teams from competing on Thursday, Courtney Frerichs, Alice Wright, Elmar Engholm and Allan Hamilton have all punched their ticket after placing in the top 12 at the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday.

Colton Thomson said he wanted to give his team seven quality innings to put New Mexico in a position to win. The senior lefty did much more than that. Thomson chose UNM’s first appearance in the 2016 Mountain West Baseball Championships to throw his first career complete game, a shutout nonetheless. His career day would not stop there as the southpaw also fanned nine batters, tying Thomson’s career best.

San Diego State is more than accustomed to elimination games in the Mountain West tournament. In fact, the sixth-seeded Aztecs pushed their winning streak to 14 in elimination contests when they beat No. 4 seed UNLV 18-8 Thursday at Santa Ana Star Field. The Mountain West announced the postseason accolades on Wednesday morning, and along with Stajduhar, second baseman Jared Holley, DH Chris DeVito, and pitcher Tyler Stevens were all appointed as first team all-conference players. Centerfielder Luis Gonzalez was appointed to the All-Mountain West Second Team.
A grand slam walk-off, an upset, and a route highlighted the first day of the Mountain West Baseball Championships on Wednesday. Six teams remain in the hunt for a postseason crown, with two teams already possessing blemishes on their records.

As the rally in support of visiting presidential candidate and supremely divisive figure Donald Trump drew to a close, the tension from individuals protesting some of his sentiments were just beginning to heat up. Early on in the evening protestors played bongos, trumpets and chanted “Si se puede!” The evening turned rowdy, but many protestors were able to voice their opinions peacefully before things got too rowdy.
Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the Albuquerque Convention Center Tuesday evening, hosting over 8,000 supporters while hundreds of protesters picketed outside. David Chavez, former member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, thanked supporters for coming out to support Trump.
The University of New Mexico announced on Wednesday morning the signing of its newest tailback. Kentrail Moran was listed as the number one running back in the state of Illinois has signed to join UNM’s well-established running attack for the 2016 season.
New Mexico announced on Tuesday morning its newest member of the men’s tennis team. Hailing from Great Britain, Lawrence Perrin has signed his National Letter of Intent and will cross the Atlantic Sea in order to join the Lobo roster. Perrin will be joining a roster returning all nine of its members from the 2015-2016 campaign, a team that garnered an at-large bid to the NCAAs.
The sun was well above the Sandia Mountains while New Mexico was taking in its final practice at Santa Ana Star Field before the Mountain West Tournament. Media representatives, conference sponsors, players and coaches were all putting in the final touches before the gun sets off for the postseason.
