Finally, 11 percent of us care about University politics

Editor, The spring 2010 election indicates UNM is heading in a positive direction. As I read the headlines, listened to issues supported by the slates and read about the concerns regarding voter turnout, I was falling fast under the impression that student government issues did not register in the minds of undergrads on the level they should.

On Tuesday, in response to a story in the sports section on Dailylobo.com, someone posted a comment that was legitimately offensive to the African American community.

LaPo employee fired for acts similar to coach Locksley's

Editor, After reading about the incident at La Posada Dining Hall in the Daily Lobo, I couldn’t help but think of the similarities between this story, and the Mike Locksley incident last year.   Harassing a co-worker, assault, battery, bullying, a hostile work environment and the police are called in.

Off night confuses fans and players

It was just that kind of night for the Lobos. Nothing would or wanted to bounce in the UNM baseball team’s favor, even a late Lobo rally in the eighth inning, which ended when Alex Allbritton hit into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. The Lobos never recovered and faltered at the hands of San Francisco, 9-5, on Tuesday at Isotopes Park. But like an old broken-down record, the pitching kept playing a bad tune. The Lobos substituted three pitchers Jacob Nelson, Gabe Aguilar and Oscar Almeida in the bottom of the sixth inning that resulted in two hits and one run by the Dons. This was before, the fourth pitcher of the inning, Jason Oatman, sat down the last two batters of the San Francisco’s line up.

Aggies overwhelm the bases for the win

Like a Halley’s comet sighting, a win for the UNM softball team is a rare occurrence. But in a game that went the distance — all seven innings — the Lobos turned in a less-than meteoric finish, tailing off like a falling star in the speckled horizon.

GPSA candidate reveals campaign fund sources

GPSA Presidential Candidate Martin Gutierrez has received $500 in campaign donations so far, according to data he posted on his website Tuesday evening. Gutierrez posted the information more than 24 hours after the GPSA council passed a resolution encouraging candidates to submit a list of campaign contributions and expenses. He said the report was late for three reasons: First, he said he didn’t receive notice from the council about its recommendation until Monday.

Med school: students are thankful for every body

She woke up around 6 a.m., snapped on her fanny pack and when she reached for the cabinet to make a bowl of oatmeal, promptly died, slumped over her walker. Inside the fanny pack were three pictures of her favorite dogs, several revoked driver’s licenses (she was legally blind) and a taped-up card, its lamination peeling at the corners. “My body has been donated to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, New Mexico,” the card reads.
