Contrary to what was printed on Tuesday, the ASUNM bill proposed increasing the limit on campaigning funds by $100 for each office, not just for senators.

Increasing the odds for marrow matches

More than 6,000 people search for a bone marrow match every day, and the likelihood of success is low. "The chance of someone being a match is about 1 in 100,000," said Nawid Farhad, president of the UNM Afghan Student Association. Farhad said that inspired the ASA to host a marrow donor drive, in collaboration with the National Marrow Donor Program, on Tuesday and Wednesday in the SUB.

Real women dream

The play "Real Women Have Curves" is about five Latinas working in a Los Angeles sweatshop, which blends into an overarching theme of family bonds and women's strength. "They make dresses where they get paid for a dress at $13 apiece, and they're sold for $200," director Salomé Martinez-Lutz said.

Greek tragedy meets 'Girls gone wild' (Video)

A hip-hop-infused modern farce meets ancient Greece in Mars Mraz's "Greek Row Tragedy," which premieres tonight at Rodey Theater at 7:30. The tale, a modern adaptation of Euripides' "The Bacchae," chronicles a frenzy of sorority girls sweeping across the nation at the urging of a lewd choreographer seeking revenge, and the attempts of one man to stop the madness.

UNM cannot afford to lose benefits of studying abroad

Editor, As a student who recently returned from a year abroad, I can attest to the true value of both the International Studies program and the office that oversees it. I read with great disappointment Donald Duran's article about the proposed legislative budget cuts that might spell the end of a wonderful department at UNM at a time when it is most necessary.

Rio Rancho project forges on

Construction of UNM's Rio Rancho campus began more than a week ago, and officials say work will proceed despite the recent revelation that state law requires off-campus facilities to be authorized by the Legislature. The University is backing House Bill 354, which asks the Legislature to authorize construction of the campus, an expansion of the existing West Side campus.

Academy a novel approach to filling public service ranks

Editor, I'd like to respond to Arun Anand Ahuja's letter published Tuesday regarding the U.S. Public Service Academy. As someone who questions the extraordinary emphasis our country puts on the military in the first place, I think that the very idea of this civilian service academy rebuts the notion that there's only one way to "serve" your country.

Lobos beat Utes for share of first place

On a night of lasts, the possibility of a first was born. For the first time ever, the UNM men's basketball team will have at least a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season title. The Lobos have never won a MWC regular-season title, but they captured one in the WAC in 1994.

Ask Dr. Peg

What comes after winter in New Mexico? Allergy season. And it has arrived in full force. Juniper pollen counts were close to 500 last time I checked, and that is high, in case your nose hadn't noticed. Next will come mulberry and other trees, then a summer full of grass itches and, finally, sneezy fall weeds.
