Michelle Zauner, better known as the solo artist of Japanese Breakfast, took over Santa Fe’s interactive art installation, Meow Wolf, on Tuesday night. The lo-fi singer fit in perfectly with Meow Wolf’s aesthetic, with her latest album Soft Sounds from Another Planet reflecting the underlying themes of the immersive installation.
The University of New Mexico College of Education is currently undergoing a self-evaluation process to determine if the name of the college accurately represents all of its departments and paths of study. According to the College of Education Dean Hector Ochoa, this has been a lengthy process that began in 2012.
New Mexico is the ninth sunniest state in the nation, and the future looks bright for the dermatology program at the University of New Mexico. The dermatology resident program re-earned accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) – meaning medical school graduates have the chance to train in the specialty in New Mexico.

The 2018 Scribendi release party showcased submissions from Honor College students from across the country. Scribendi is an annual, nonprofit magazine produced by honor students at the University of New Mexico, who incorporate submissions of other honors students. The free publication is staffed by UNM students who collaborate together to create, design and curate the edition for that year.
Author of the book Social Media Is Bullshit, B.J. Mendelson, delves into the creative world of comic fiction with his addition to the field, “Vengeance, Nevada.” Cover art for the issue is provided by Isidore Koliavras and interior art and letters are by Peter Czaplarski, with the story and characters written by Mendelson himself. The comic begins with the main character who is first introduced by walking into a house where she is quickly greeted by a cat, and after some dialogue she leans back, commenting on her exhaustion before drifting off.
Student Health and Counseling celebrated their condom-mint program’s 7th anniversary by providing paletas, condoms, mints and safe sex pamphlets to University students on April 26. The event, held in the Student Union Building Mall, was in collaboration with representatives from the University of New Mexico Truman Health Services, the UNM LGBTQ Resource Center and the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center.
Associated Students of New Mexico President Noah Brooks and Vice President Sally Midani each gave a State of ASUNM address Thursday afternoon. The address highlighted campus events, improving campus lighting, promoting sexual assault awareness and this year’s tuition bump. “We had a lot of big challenges that we faced from the very beginning,” Brooks said, addressing students in the Student Union Building theater.
To say that newspapers are struggling is a dramatic understatement. Newsroom staff numbers are being slashed, subscriptions are dwindling and more publications than ever are moving away from print media, opting to go online instead either because of finances or a shift in culture.
I am no expert, but I can appreciate a good car when I see one. This past spring break I had the chance to visit the Concours d’Elegance car show in Amelia Island, Florida, where my parents live. The island’s Concours d’Elegance has been around since 1996 and features restored trucks, race cars and kit cars. Also featured were concept cars from big-name companies, and smaller ones I had never heard of, all with futuristic elements, like endless windows and GPS systems projected onto the windshield.
In celebration of National Arbor Day, the grounds and landscaping department will be planting different kinds of trees around campus the week of April 23 through 27. Alan Billau, the arboriculture supervisor for the department, said these plantings, which are open to everyone, are a good way to connect with the community.
Before making their 2018 appearance at Coachella, Tank and the Bangas made a boisterous stop at Santa Fe Brewing Co., just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Tank and the Bangas, led by the ever fascinating Tarriona “Tank” Ball, gained a huge fan base due to their recent appearance on an episode of NPR Tiny Desk Concert as a result of winning the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest.

Just over a year ago Able Tesfaye, known more widely by his super star persona The Weeknd, released his overly flashy album “Starboy,” the follow up to his Grammy winning “The Beauty, Behind the Madness” (TBBTM). With Able teasing on Instagram that he was back in the studio working on new music, the world waited in anticipation for him to release the first single. On March 29, Able posted artwork for what many thought might be his new single, called “My Dear Melancholy,”. But fans in London noticed a suspicious billboard that stated “New album from The Weeknd out now.” Accidentally put up a day early and tweeted by fans, the world was now just hours away from another full album by The Weeknd.
Libraries at the University of New Mexico are usually thought of as safe places for students to study and access resources. For some students, though, this has been anything but true. Since the beginning of this semester, there have been at least four instances of indecent exposure — individuals intentionally exposing their genitals in public — in Zimmerman Library, only three of which were officially reported. All four of these incidents involved a subject publicly masturbating within the library. These incidents took place on Jan. 24, Jan. 25, Feb. 11 and April 1, according to a list of incidents compiled by library staff, as well as an interview with one victim conducted by the Daily Lobo.

Five and a half weeks after the Parkland, Florida shooting took the lives of 17 individuals, “March for Our Lives” rallied in cities across the world to protest school shootings and gun violence on March 24. Here, in Albuquerque, the “March for Our Lives” march began at 10 a.m. in Old Town Plaza. The march went from the Plaza to Tiguex Park, where the rally began at 11 a.m. Albuquerque's “March for Our Lives” was organized and ran by local youth. Blair Dixon, Jessica Stanton and Zoey Craft were the head organizers for the march. According to Dixon, a freshman at the University of New Mexico, youth organizers and volunteers met every day for the past three weeks to plan the march.
