Senate passes ASUNM budget of nearly $750K

The Associated Students of the University of New Mexico will get about $750,000 for its budget for next school year. ASUNM’s budget bill passed the undergraduate student government’s senate in a meeting Wednesday night. The bill will allot nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to ASUNM and the student organizations it represents.

Albuquerque residents rallied at Civic Plaza Saturday afternoon to discuss the importance of the Albuquerque Police Department, to remember fallen officers and demonstrate their support for the APD. About 200 veterans, business owners and other attendees met at 10 a.m. to praise and defend the officers.

About 200 people rallied at Civic Plaza Saturday afternoon to voice their support for the Albuquerque Police Department. Veterans, business owners and others met at 10 a.m. to praise and defend the officers. After about an hour, the supporters marched around downtown, chanting “APD” and shaking hands with officers.

Martin wins GPSA election

President-elect Texanna Martin will succeed Priscila Poliana as the next president of the Graduate and Professional Student Association. Martin, who is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration, won the position Thursday evening with 198 out of the 389 votes cast for president.

After more than a year of investigations, the U.S. Department of Justice has concluded that the Albuquerque Police Department practices excessive force. At a press conference Thursday morning, Jocelyn Samuels, acting assistant attorney general of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, said the results were a product of a thorough investigation.

Connect wins ASUNM vote

Rachel Williams on Wednesday night won the presidency of the Associated Students of New Mexico. Williams, who ran with the Connect ASUNM slate, received 940 out of the 2,303 ballots cast on election day. She snagged the presidency from Forward UNM’s Isaac Romero, who garnered 742 votes, and Team You’s Colt Balok, who garnered 481 votes.
