UNM President David Schmidly didn't know what he wanted to do when he started college in the early '60s. "I was interested in basketball and girls," he said. "Academics was the last thing on my list of priorities." Schmidly started his tenure as the University's 20th president on June 1.
The Internet is the best place to start looking for scholarships. The Financial Aid Office lists scholarships that are available through UNM at its Web site, Unm.edu/~finaid. A federal judge in New Mexico denied a request to subpoena UNM for the personal information of Internet users suspected of music piracy. The foundation, a nonprofit organization that gets money for the University from private donors, raised $14 million more than last year, said Michael Kingan, vice president of the organization.
