University plans for system upgrade

UNM and the entire state of New Mexico will soon be on the cutting edge of computer technology if one group of University staff members has its way. Bill Adkins, director of Computer and Information Resources and Technology, said the University is looking to take advantage of the collapse of the telecommunications industry two years ago by purchasing a stockpile of reduced-price fiber optics cable.

A wave of panic swept across the UNM campus late last week as rumors circulated that a serial rapist was loose in the area. However, officials said the rumor is a hoax, started by a mass e-mail sent by an as yet unnamed person and they have the situation under control.

A temporary provision of House Bill 303 that will strengthen nutritional guidelines in New Mexico could garner the University $300,000 if passed. Stephen Fox, who co-wrote the bill and corresponded with the United Nations to help create global nutritional standards, said the bill's effects would be extremely important on a statewide level.

Creative system saves water

With New Mexico's growing water scarcity in mind, Irland proposed construction of an artistic water gathering system on the northwest corner of the SUB that would put some of Albuquerque's rare precipitation to good use.

Stadium obtains makeover
