Current Senate aims to improve green initiatives, communication

Editor, On April 8, the Daily Lobo ran the article “ASUNM candidates stress sustainability, safety” and we felt it was our duty as the current ASUNM Chair and Vice Chair for the Outreach and Appointment Committee to inform the student body of the things ASUNM has been working on for the past academic year. The ASUNM Senate has made great progress in building a coalition between the Office of Sustainability, UNM Recycling and the Sustainability Studies Program.

NM state legislature actions leading the way in drug reform

Editor, I’m a member of UNM’s chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and as such, it’s one of my primary objectives to adequately inform students and faculty about the issues of drugs, the laws surrounding them and their impact on our world. It makes sense that New Mexico has a drug problem.

9-11 was still an inside job, the media is hiding the truth

Editor, Do any conscious people still walk the halls of UNM? This is the question that I ask myself, as our national leaders continue to lie about the so-called “War on Terror.” This lie is only used as a justification for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Popejoy Hall is one of many venues in Center for the Arts

Editor, As a staff employee at UNM for nine years now, I’m still constantly stunned by students and staff that call the entire Center for the Arts complex “Popejoy Hall.” In the April 6 edition on page 5, the caption under the picture reads “sits in the shadows of Theatre X in Popejoy Hall on Monday.” Popejoy Hall, built in 1966 as UNM’s handshake to the city as a 2,000-seat performing arts center, is but one of four venues in the Center for the Arts.

Ceci n'est pas une pipe

On March 30, someone pretended to be ASUNM senatorial candidate Kristen Sandine and posted a comment on Dailylobo.com, saying opposing candidate David Conway was instrumental behind the February 15 stabbing. So the Daily Lobo has come up with a comment policy: We will not remove comments because we disagree with them, but we reserve the right to take down a comment if it is a libelous or unnecessarily hurtful attack on an individual or group.

Fraud abounds during census season

When it comes to fraud, nothing is off limits, especially on the Internet. With the 2010 Census swinging into high gear and tax season already well underway, expect to see fraudulent “census” and “tax” e-mail and text messages in the near future.  For starters, the Internal Revenue Service never conducts business via e-mail, text messaging or the telephone. For the most part, this is also true about the U.S.

Civil rights no match for U.S. politix

On Saturday morning, I was driving down the highway, in some busy section of town by R.E.I., and I saw two young men dressed in suits, standing on the highway meridian.
