Editor, Below is an election question, word for word, from the GPSA. Does this look like a fair election question?
Editor, Supposedly, this is a smoke-free campus, and allegedly one is only allowed to use tobacco in designated areas.
Editor, Many years ago, I was a student at UNM and had many classes at Mitchell Hall. I had fond and not so fond memories, the degree of fondness being directly related to how often I attended class in any given course. For some years I have wondered, who was the “Mitchell” in Mitchell Hall? I have asked a number of in-the-know UNM officials and my question has always been met with the response, “I don’t know.” Perhaps there is an easy answer and it may be that the history of Mitchell Hall has been the subject of a Lobo article. I only see the Daily Lobo if I happen to be strolling through campus and pick up an edition. If so, please ignore this letter. But if not, it would be an interesting assignment for someone at the paper. This evening, I did walk through campus and admired the renovation to the building.
Is anything sustainable? Newton’s laws of physics tell us that an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Editor, On Wednesday, UNM staff members arrived to uproot the “Hokona Community Garden,” a sustainable vegetable garden started by one of the dorm’s residents, Alex Borowski. In what was a dirt pit, sprouting weeds and collecting cigarette butts, there is now lettuce, kale and broccoli.
Editor, Last Friday the Daily Lobo featured an article entitled “Not all centers created equal.” In the article a UNM student talks about her experience at one of the five local Care Net Pregnancy Centers.
Editor, Last Monday, the Daily Lobo ran a photo of our defending NCAA 1-mile champion, Lee Emanuel, who had just finished a grueling race inside the Convention Center Indoor Track and Field Complex.
Editor, I was delighted to hear in a recent Daily Lobo article that La Posada is taking steps to be more environmentally friendly.
Editor, I must admit my feelings of sadness last semester when the new printing policy was announced.
Editor, Last week’s read-in for Haitian relief gave me an opportunity to see my colleagues, students and the local business community for what they really are.
Editor, This is a letter to your writer Hunter Riley: Please! I have no problem with your article on anal sex, but there was no mention of the fact that a number of sexually transmitted infections are also things to think about when planning for an “anal adventure.” Student Health and Counseling, New Mexico AIDS Services, Planned Parenthood and the Department of Health’s Stanford Clinic are all close to campus and provide free or very inexpensive condoms.
Dear Editor, On behalf of the Muslim Student Association at the University of New Mexico, we would like to express our concerns and disappointment about many of the comments posted in response to the article, “UNM’s Islam classes teach non-Muslims fear, hatred” published online on Oct.
Editor, Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision was monumental. Here are my thoughts and suggestions: The First Amendment does not grant any rights to individuals, per se. It rather prohibits Congress from enacting any laws “abridging the freedom of speech.” From that perspective, it is easier to follow the majority’s argument.
Editor, In case you missed it, the framers of the Constitution of these here United States turned over in their collective graves last Thursday, Jan.
Editor, My name is Raul Anaya and I am currently obtaining my Executive MBA here at UNM. I am writing in support of the student fees that go to UNM athletics.
Editor, This coming Monday, Jan. 25, the Graduate and Professional Student Association will be holding special elections to consider four resolutions passed by the GPSA in the fall.
Editor, On Dec. 5, the Graduate and Professional Student Association Council overwhelmingly voted to have the GPSA membership’s voice heard by having a special election with regard to how Senior Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs handled the Locksley/Gerald incident.
Many college students are deeply in debt today. An average debt recently quoted on the news mentioned a figure of $22,000, and the debts of students going into preprofessional graduate programs are far higher, amounting to six-digit sums.
Editor, This is an open letter to all graduate students: In the upcoming days the Graduate and Professional Student Association will be asking you to vote in a special election.
