Obama embodies conservative values better than Republicans
October 14Editor, Stephen Dinkel is wrong in saying Barack Obama is not for America. The conservative values of fiscal responsibility, national defense and moral values are not represented by the Republicans. America needs Obama; conservatives and their values need Obama.
Column: Don't wait to protect your identity
Mike Carr guest columnist | October 13October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, and its goal is to increase awareness about cyber security issues and engage users in implementing additional security measures to protect their computers. You could say the goal of this monthly column is the same: to increase awareness and help the UNM community better secure its information.
Columbus Day disregards American Indians' struggles
October 13Editor, It's that time of year again when America celebrates its origins with the recognition of Columbus Day, and if you grew up in the mainstream, you probably don't think twice about it. But if you grew up as an American Indian, you do, especially if you know your history.
New voter registrations will be processed by Nov. 4
October 13Editor, The Daily Lobo published an article on Oct. 7 regarding students, voter registration and the provisional balloting process in Bernalillo County and throughout the state. Unfortunately, the article cited some inaccurate information from a person who is not related to the election process in Bernalillo County.
Column: View from the bottom
Richard M. Berthold Columnist | October 10As I have said before, the heart of the University is faculty and students, and all else is simply support - or in the case of the central administration, a very expensive illusion of support. In turn, the heart of that support and the physical center of the University is the library, for which reason I once got into trouble for mercilessly pillorying a former library dean who felt books should be put in storage in order to make room for more offices and meeting rooms.
College Republicans president focused on patronizing others
October 10Editor, With regard to Donald Gluck's letter, I take exception to not only his statements but to the overall sophomoric tone he chose to adopt. I feel his entire letter is indicative of the generally ailing and geriatric policies of the Republican Party. As one of B.
Carrying stick should not be cause for paranoid questioning
October 9Editor, On Monday, it was conference day, and I was running late. I was racing to meet my creative writing teacher. To make the students comfortable and at ease, she was holding conferences at the SUB. I raced across the quad, ran up the steps, and the uniform shouted, "You can't go in there.
Daily Lobo's biased articles suggest paper not independent
October 9Editor, I believe that the school should change the name of the newspaper. It has become increasingly prominent of the Democratic bias in every article in the paper, excluding the sports page. The new name for the paper should be the Daily Liberal. It is actually funny how the paper has tried to change the opinion of many students through persuasion and through very biased articles.
Not registering to vote means forfeiting say in country's future
October 9Editor, Yesterday was the last day to register to vote. Many students have chosen to register. About 600 registered yesterday. I say hooray to all those brave souls stepping courageously into the political arena in this election. This letter is addressed to the other group of UNM students - the ones who, for whatever political reason, have chosen not to register over the last three months since organizations have been on campus.
Fraternity coverage shouldn't single out one organization
October 8Editor, After reading the article written about the Sigma Chi party, I was upset to hear your newspaper failed to mention the other events that occurred that weekend. First, I will mention that I was an attendee at that party. I know the boys who had that party, and it was never intended to be a Sigma Chi event.

Best way to fight terrorism is to obey Jesus' teachings
October 8Editor, Thanks to the Gideons for giving out free literature last Wednesday. I read the New Testament for the first time last year after the same group came out. I had the pleasure of speaking to one of the men Wednesday. Our brief conversation has compelled me to share some observations.
Republicans' spending habits a burden on 9/11 generation
October 7Editor, President Bush presided over the worst foreign attack on American soil in U.S. history on Sept. 11, 2001. After ignoring intelligence warnings, Bush then made the worst strategic mistake in U.S. history by occupying Iraq. Bush then presided over the worst natural disaster in U.
Wall Street woes first sign of disintegration of US supremacy
October 7Editor, Why are politicians sounding alarm bells as Wall Street goes down in flames? It's simple: Our economy is three-quarters goods and services. When people don't have disposable income or access to credit, three-quarters of our gross domestic produce will slide.
