by Jennifer Onuska ASUNM President This brief column is to inform students about an up-coming situation that will affect many students. The parking structure on campus near the residence halls will soon be UNM Hospital Parking only. That's right, the hospital will be taking over the parking structure to build a pavilion.

COLUMN: Clinton, Bush both to blame

by J.R. McKinney Daily Lobo Guest Columnist I recall a much younger and more idealistic Bill Clinton than we see today. When he ran against Pat Buchanan and Bush Sr., his platform enticed many of us with the promise of universal healthcare and, oh yes, protecting our industries from cheap imported goods by way of his opposition to NAFTA.

LETTER: Protestors rally in cold, wind or rain

Editor, Jonathan's Kahn's letter on March 31 about protesters shows that students are paying attention to both supporters of war and peace, and that fact in itself is heartening. However, his pointing fingers at one group of individuals needs response.

LETTER: Police busts on parties need not be aggressive

Editor, In my three long years of college I’ve been to my fair share of parties, of which a fair share have been broken up by the cops. All of my police encounters involved with parties have been business as usual, until about 15 minutes ago. I was at a party at a good friend of mine’s house, which was incidentally broken up by the cops.

LETTER: Protesters: learn to weather cold wind

Editor, Seeing protesters by the UNM Bookstore night after night is annoying, but I respect their right to voice their opinions. Seeing the “Skinheads For the USA” on March 26 was surprising, but I applaud their support of our troops. Seeing only the skinheads on March 27, however, was just plain shocking.

LETTER: War contradictory to health

On Thursday, March 27, there was a health fair in front of Zimmerman Library. Amidst tables offering massages and fruit smoothies was a table promoting support of the U.S. war against Iraq. War is an outrageous contradiction of health.

EDITORIAL: Every war results in loss of life, casualties

Staff Editorial The Greyhound (Loyola College-Maryland) (U-WIRE) BALTIMORE - As expected, the United States has opened what government officials say is the next phase in the war on terrorism, Operation Iraqi Freedom. Friday's so-called "shock and awe" campaign has most conspicuously reminded us of what war really means.

LETTER: War effort garners approval, support

Editor, People around the world continue to question the war in Iraq. Those for and against the war have made sensible, credible arguments supporting their causes. Some of the strongest arguments that come to mind against the war are: inspections would have worked if given enough time, the costs of the war are tremendous, we shouldn't be risking the lives of others for oil and money.

COLUMN: Celebrities misuse Oscars

by Scott Darnell Daily Lobo Columnist When war broke out in Iraq, there was talk that the Oscars would be postponed in an effort to ensure that needed public attention wasn't stripped from vital coverage of the war. The talk amounted to nothing however, and the Oscars were aired last Sunday night; unfortunately, our brightest and best actors and actresses, the people we turn to on a daily basis to make us laugh, scream, or cry used the annual fest as a political forum for which they could denigrate President Bush and U.

COLUMN: Bats could be secret weapon

As the tension surrounding the war in Iraq heightens, the United States continues to look for new resolutions for the arenaceous Persian Gulf chokehold. And it should come as no surprise that new avenues of tactical warfare are currently being employed. However, it takes a strange mind to turn a lackadaisical stroll through the zoo into a scouting mission for new military recruits.

COLUMN: TV war reporters cave into patriotic pressure

by Jonathan Shazar Daily Pennsylvanian (U. Pennsylvania) (U-WIRE) PHILADELPHIA - Television journalists give their viewers all sorts of reasons to cringe on a daily basis. So now that they're on the air 24 hours a day, it should surprise no one that they would embarrass themselves proportionally more often.
