LETTER: Finance reform bill is key to democracy
September 6In my 91 years I have seen two world wars and the deaths of as many as a hundred million people in the struggle between the forces of free democracy and the powers of oppression.
In my 91 years I have seen two world wars and the deaths of as many as a hundred million people in the struggle between the forces of free democracy and the powers of oppression.
Let us set aside, for the moment, all the polemics and concentrate on facts:
The United Nations, at least in theory, is an amazing example of democracy on a global level. Each time it meets, representatives from countries can have a dialogue face-to-face, and hopefully heart-to-heart, if peace and justice for everyone is what it’s all about.
I was born colored. You can see it on my birth certificate. I was born in the Negro - or Nigra - wing of the hospital in Conyers, Ga. Ask my mama. From the beginning, race has been a factor in my life.
Hooray for Jeremy Reynalds! His is truly a "voice in the wilderness" on this campus.
The first Zionists were Jewish socialists. They were not concerned with reclaiming "the Holy Land." They didn't even consider Palestine to be the only possible location for a Jewish state. Their goal was to create a safe haven, a place where the Jews of the world would no longer have to fear violence and oppression.
One of the joys of school in the modern day is the endless forms we are constantly asked to fill out. Standardized tests, surveys, teacher evaluations - you name it. Along with other demographic information, one question we always have to answer these days is "ethnicity."
We are in another election for mayor, and I hear again candidates pushing the emotional hot button issue of crime to attract votes. But, I have not heard any of the candidates say anything about the largest criminal gang operating the city, and hope they will before the election is over.
I think we would be a lot better off if more people croaked, and instead of blaming the media or moral values, we just let it be that it is natural for unintelligent people do unintelligent things and get themselves killed or aversely affect their lives in other ways.
It is great to see Jeremy Reynalds writing for the Lobo again this semester. I certainly respect what he does for homeless people and enjoy his commentary, even though most of his rhetoric is misguided in my opinion.
When Parking and Transportation Services set sales ratios for the G and South Lots, we considered not only the capacity of the parking lots but that of the shuttle systems, as well. We have come closer than ever to balancing the two routes and ensuring that all our park and ride customers receive the same quality service.
In response to Jeremy Reynalds' column "Pro-pot song should be banned" from the Aug. 30 Daily Lobo, I can't help but laugh at the absurdity and hypocrisy of his article. I find it rather curious that a guy who writes a column for a newspaper and ex-sometimes-radio-show-host would argue for censorship.
As you look over these words, the United Nations World Conference Against Racism is underway in Durban, South Africa. Hopefully the magnitude of this conference is a growing reflection of a movement to create world partnerships to address and deal with racism in all its 21st century manifestations.
I am writing in response to Mr. Reynalds' column in Thursday's Daily Lobo titled, "Pro-pot song should be banned." I would like to remind Mr. Reynalds that this country has a little piece of paper called the United States Constitution that gives anyone on this soil the freedom of speech and expression that is denied to many around the world.
After reading Jeremy Reynald's latest rant, I had to laugh. According to Jeremy, most of the problems in our culture and society can be blamed on the liberal media.
Can anyone answer these questions? How many wounded has Israel inflicted on the Palestinians?
I am appalled by what I read in the Aug. 29 issue of the Daily Lobo by T-VI student Matthew Hooge.
At first glance viewers might have thought it was a slow news day when Albuquerque's NBC affiliate led its 10 p.m. newscast with a story about rapper Afroman.
I am sending this message to the Lobo football team in hopes of their success this weekend. I may be defecting my life-long support of the New Mexico State University Aggies for just this football game. After the Lobos pummel the Miners, maybe the Miners will come crawling back to play the NMSU Aggies.
By now, if you were a responsible taxpayer, and your parents did not claim you as a dependant last year, you may have been informed that you will receive a tax refund as a result of the Bush administration's tax cut. Many on Capitol Hill think that this tax cut is dangerous and not fiscally responsible.
