Editor, We, as members of Catholic Apologetics Fellowship and Evangelization, would like to respond to an advertisement in the Tuesday, November 12 issue of the Daily Lobo. As a Catholic organization, it is our obligation to respond and portray Catholic Doctrine accurately and consistently.
In order to understand the ethics surrounding the abortion issue, there are two central questions which are determinative: (1) Do human beings possess intrinsic value? (2) Is the developing fetus a human being?

I want empathy; at least some. In recent weeks, I’ve found myself getting more and more disappointed by the lack of empathy expressed by my fellow Albuquerque citizens with regard to the upcoming abortion ban vote. Although I can’t see myself ever getting an abortion past twenty weeks, or even before that point, I can still imagine how difficult a position some women find themselves where they may have to choose to undergo such a surgery.
Once upon a time, a student took himself to a festivity, one with plentiful libations and jolly company. There he met a fair maiden, previously unbeknownst to him. He and the maiden shared a flagon, a flask, a carafe and a pitcher. After a merry evening he took her to bed. Upon rising the next day, he smacked himself in his pounding head and stuffed himself with generous servings of guilt and fear.

Editor, Whoever pays the fiddler usually calls the tune. When a “scientific” study comes out saying that coffee is not harmful, always ask who paid for that study. Follow the money trail. If anyone who makes money off coffee helped pay for that study, do not swallow the claimed results as truth.
On Tuesday, November 19, the city of Albuquerque will vote on whether to abolish the right of women to abort after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Everyone has an opinion about abortion; it really is a controversial issue with reasonable arguments from both sides.
Editor, When I am asked how old I am, the answer I prefer to give is that I do not know. The reason I prefer that answer is because I know that I am not my physical body, but something other than my physical body that entered what became my physical body at what we refer to as “conception.”
