The talk heading into Wednesday night’s Mountain West Conference opener focused on the New Mexico men’s ability to keep pace with the high-tempo offense UNLV features and the scoring power by the conference’s top scorer. Anthony Bennett, UNLV’s star freshman forward, had a league-high 19.9 points per game though the team’s 15-game non-conference slate.

It snapped a 12-game winning streak since the season began.

He hobbled off the Pan American Center court but returned minutes later. He didn’t miss a step. His career-high 24 points led the Lobos to a 68-63 victory over the Aggies.
The No. 17 New Mexico men’s basketball team made that many against 7-foot-5 center Sim Bhullar and a tall New Mexico State lineup. The Lobos contained their in-state foe to a 32.8 shooting percentage in their Rio Grande Rivalry game Saturday night, coming away with a 73-58 victory Saturday afternoon at The Pit.
