Lance Watson A sorcerer on the ball who plays twice as big as his 5'6" height, Watson takes on opposing defenses like the Ninja Turtles battle Shredder Patrick Grange When opposing defenders come limping off the field with their legs in disarray, expect Grange, with his scintillating ball skills, to be the perpetrator.

OSU loses top player, Lobos to seek revenge

by Kristie Boudwin Daily Lobo The Oregon State Beavers should have more trouble damming up the Lobos this year. This is the first OSU rematch for the Lobos since the 2003 Las Vegas Bowl. OSU dominated the game, winning 55-14. The Beaver defense limited the Lobos to 127 total offensive yards, while their offense accumulated more than four times that amount, finishing with 540 total yards.

Lobo skier finalist for Woman of the Year

Staff Report Former Lobo skier Jennifer Delich was chosen to represent of New Mexico as a Woman of the Year award finalist. The award honors female student athletes who excel in athletics academics, and community service. Finalists must also have finished their collegiate athletics eligibility.

There's nothing like watching a great game in a great bar. One of the coolest experiences of my life was two years ago when Arizona beat Gonzaga in double-overtime in a second-round March Madness game. I was watching it at Saggio's, and the place was packed.

In front of your miniscule television and on a couch you no doubt passed out on the night before, you watch whatever game the stations decide to broadcast - which, oddly enough, always turns out to be the Cincinnati Bengals vs.

David James said the Cincinnati Bengals will win the Super Bowl this year. I imagine three questions are popping into your head after reading that intro: Who is David James? Why do I care what team he thinks will win? And is he nuts? The answer to that last one is hard to figure out.

by Reid Wessels Daily Lobo Saturday night was a great night for a football game. It was also one of the saddest anniversaries any of us will ever know. Perhaps one of the biggest wins in the history of UNM football will forever be linked to the greatest tragedy in American history.

Athletes of the Week

Jacquelyne Gallegos Track Gallegos was terrific in her return to form for the UNM cross country team after a car accident in 2002 put her career on hold. She held a strong lead through much of her 6,000-meter race on Saturday and finished in third place with a career best time of 22:13.

Three wins set tone for season

Staff Report The 19th-ranked Lobo men's soccer team shellacked the Loyola Marymount Lions 3-0 on Friday. The Lobos start the season with three consecutive wins for the second time in three years and the sixth time in school history. Freshman Blake Danaher recorded his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute.

Runners leave competition in the dust

by Travis Weber Daily Lobo The UNM cross country team blew away the competition this weekend at the annual Lobo Invitational. The men defeated second-place Texas A&M by 32 points in their season opener. Senior Matt Gonzales finished second overall with a time of 24:44, a fraction of a second behind teammate and overall winner Shadrack Biwott.

Golf team takes first in Japan

Staff Report The Lobo men's golf team started the season off on a high by winning the Topy Cup in Fukushima, Japan. After strong play in the event's first two rounds, the Lobos shot a third round 5-under par on the par 72 Tanagura Country Club. They finished the tournament 17-under.

Rowland pulls wins out of hat

Lobo men's soccer player Jeff Rowland was named the National Player of the Week by CollegeSoccerNews.com after scoring five goals in two games last weekend. UNM came from two goals back in their first game to beat Delaware, 3-2. Rowland, a junior, tallied his first career hat trick in the game.

Lobos look to pass Tech test

by Kristie Boudwin Daily Lobo Watch for flying footballs Saturday night in University Stadium. The Texas Tech Raiders bring their air-it-out offense to Albuquerque hot off a 27-13 win in their season opener versus Southern Methodist. With their combination of an overall effective strategy and individual talent, the Raiders were good enough last year to lead the nation in offensive yards per game.

Fashola no flash in the pan

by Kristie Boudwin Daily Lobo Cougar offense beware, Fola Fashola is back to lead a hungry Lobo defense. The 5-foot-11-inch, 209-pound linebacker started his 2003 senior season with 11 tackles and three sacks in the first two games. At the end of the second game, Fashola went down and did not get back up.
