Lobos tear down Utes 42-35

by Kenn Rodriguez Daily Lobo To celebrate Saturday's Homecoming game, the UNM football team brought down the University of Utah 42-35 in overtime. And celebrating Lobo fans brought down a goalpost. UNM (4-5, 2-1 MWC) used big plays to stay in the game, then used its misdirection offense and staunch defense to dispatch the Utes (2-6, 0-4) and stay in the MWC bowl hunt.

Staff Report The UNM men's tennis team slammed past the competition at the Region VII Tournament held in Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday. The unexpected highlight of the tournament for UNM was a two-set upset against San Diego State University's Felix Hardt that helped propel UNM sophomore Ryan Stotland to next level of the singles round.

Staff Report The University of New Mexico men's golf team shot a combined three-day total of 857 and finished fifth out of 18 teams in the Barrona Collegiate Cup that concluded on Tuesday in Lakeside, Calif. The Lobos finished 11 strokes behind front-runner San Diego State University, which shot an 846.

Staff Report The UNM volleyball team found the road to be unkind again this weekend, losing matches to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and San Diego State University in Mountain West Conference play. The losses drop the Lobos to 6-14 overall, 1-6 in the MWC.

The Lobo men opened Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a win over San Diego State University while the women salvaged its weekend Mountain West Conference set with a tie versus the nationally ranked University of Utah.

Errors earn Lobos a loss in overtime

The University of New Mexico football team saw its chances of making a bowl game this year all but slip away with a 45-44 loss to Utah State University on Saturday. A combination of mental and physical errors doomed the Lobos in what might be the most disappointing loss of the season.

Athletes of the week

UNM running back DonTrell Moore and the women's soccer defensive unit are this week's Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Moore had the best performance of his career on Saturday against Utah State in a 45-44 loss to the Aggies. The freshman had 166 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns, becoming the first UNM freshman to top the 100-yard rushing mark.

UNM stumbles and falls to BYU

The UNM women's soccer team fell to Brigham Young University 3-2 on Thursday night. The Cougars scored with less than five minutes left in the game lifting them to a victory and a 3-0 start in the Mountain West Conference. Freshman midfielder Brooke Bowman took a pass from Jeni Viernes and beat Lobo goalkeeper Kristen Winters for the game-winning goal.

Lobos to face USU in their final non-conference game

The resurgent UNM football team plays its final non-conference game Saturday against Utah State University in Logan, Utah. The Div. I Independent Aggies (1-5) have only beaten Division I-AA Idaho State University this year. USU lost its first four games against Division-I teams by a total of 178-61.

Picked in preseason polls to finish fifth out of seven teams, the Lobos have surprised the conference and the nation.

New players, coach add to new-look Lobos

Hello UNM student body - it is another year of academics and with that comes the athletics. Congrats to the football team for going on the road and defeating the University of Nevada Las Vegas. In case you did not know, Oct. 12 was the official day in which basketball teams across the nation started practice.
