Aggies grab state bragging rights in 24-13 victory

On Saturday, the University of New Mexico football team was humbled by its 24-13 loss to in-state rival New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. The Lobos looked confused and out of rhythm for most of the game as the Aggies dominated time of possession and the flow of the game.

Spikers claim three straight in Lobo invite

The UNM volleyball team got the most out of home-court advantage, winning this weekend's Comcast Lobo Invitational tournament. The Lobos (4-8) rallied to beat Southern Methodist University Friday night and Temple University Saturday afternoon and dominated Auburn University Saturday night to get the trifecta.

Women's soccer captures second, Theys gets MVP at Aces tourney

Staff report The UNM women's soccer team swept two games over the University of Evansville and Oakland (Mich.) University to place second in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind., this weekend. The Lobos placed behind tournament winners the University of Kansas (7-1-1) based on goal differential.

Athletes of the Week

Erchen Theys of the women's soccer team and Junro Narita of the men's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo athletes of the week. Theys, junior midfielder, led the women to a a second place finish in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind.

Injury won't keep Lobos from win

Tomorrow the Lobos travel to Las Cruces to take on in-state rival New Mexico State University for the 93rd time. People are wondering if UNM will be as dominating as it was in last year's match up when the Lobos kicked the stuffing out of a depleted NMSU squad 53-0. It was the first shutout for UNM since 1984 and the second best beating of the Aggies, surpassed only by a 61-0 Lobo slaughter in 1948.

Men's soccer team undefeated

The UNM men's soccer team is on a roll. By defeating the Cal Poly Mustangs 3-0 and the University of Evansville Purple Aces 2-1 in overtime last weekend, the Lobos got two crucial wins and extended their undefeated record to 6-0.

The UNM volleyball team hosts its first home matches this weekend at the Comcast Lobo Invitational. The tourney includes Auburn University, Southern Methodist University and Temple University.

Men's cross country team cruises, women take second

Staff Report The UNM men's and women's cross country teams continued their success this weekend in a triumphant return to the UNM North Golf Course for the Lobo Invitational. The Lobo men won its second consecutive tournament while cruising to 21-point victory over second place Air Force Academy.

Men's golf team takes top honors at UNM Tucker Invitational

Staff Report For the second year in a row, the UNM men's golf team won its own William H. Tucker Intercollegiate tournament. Senior Michael Letzig won individual honors, shooting a final round 2-under on his way to 9-under par for the tournament. Letzig the first Lobo to win the individual title since Doug LaBelle tied for top honors in 1997.

Lobos find D, lose Wright

UNM's 23-0 demolition of Baylor University Saturday night turned out to be a game of lost and found. The Lobos found its ferocious, top-20 defense, which held the Bears to 107 yards total offense, recorded four sacks, forced two fumbles.

UNM D back to form with total domination

The UNM defensive squad showed just how good it can be in it 23-0 shut out of Baylor University Saturday. The Lobos D dominated, wreaking havoc on the Bears' offense all night. Good defense is something that UNM fans have gotten used to over the past couple of years, but that had not been the case in the first three games this season.

Athletes of the Week

Jacquelyne Gallegos and the UNM Men's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo athletes of the week. Gallegos came in second place at this weekend's Lobo Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course. The sophomore blazed through the 6,000 meter course in 22 minutes and 45 seconds, helped propel the Lobos into second place.

Soccer team off to a strong start

The excitement is building around this year's UNM men's soccer team. By winning its first four games, the Lobos and are off to their best start since 1987. After earning all four wins on the road, the Lobos are ready for some home cooking this weekend.

Lobos seek revenge against Bears

The University of New Mexico football team will be seeking revenge Saturday when it takes on Baylor University. The Lobos (1-2, 0-1 MWC) return to non-league action this weekend in a rematch of last year's 16-13 overtime loss that took place in Waco, Texas.

Three UNM athletes were awarded player of the week honors for their performances during the weekend. Senior linebacker Charles Moss was named the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the week in football, while junior forward Marte Dolva was named MWC women's soccer player of the week. Freshman forward Ben Ashwill was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation player of the week in men's soccer.

Lobos win two in Adidas Classic

The UNM women's soccer team swept through the Adidas Classic, defeating the University of Houston on Friday night and Northern Arizona University Sunday afternoon. The Lobos (2-2-0) got a weekend's worth of work from forward Marte Dolva, who came off the bench to get two goals and one assist against the Cougars (1-2-0).
