COLUMN: Faith more vital than religion

by Sari Krosinsky Daily Lobo columnist I was recently reminded of something that I couldn't really forget: anti-Semitism actually does still exist. In one of my classes, someone declared that Jews -- because we don't follow that person's religious beliefs -- are wrong and in our hearts we know we're wrong.

LETTER: Diverse opinions on war fully appreciated

Editor, Your paper has long been called the "Daily Liberal," and for good reason. However, if I complain when you are one-sided in your focus, I must thank you when you are not. Last week, you published several items that convey the other side of the coin in regards to the crisis in Iraq.

Staff Report Former UNM Board of Regents member David Archuleta resigned Friday as chairman of the Presidential Search Committee. LETTER: Challenging leaders not 'anti-American'

Editor, When I read Ms. Slayton's opinion in your Friday, Jan. 31, issue, I did a bit of a double take. Can it be that even after the shock and horror of Sept. 11 has dissipated and most of Americans hearts and minds are coming back into balance that there are some people still so terrified and so blind, that they are incapable of thinking about an issue or a president with some skepticism and depth? I too read Terry Mulcahy's opinion, and I had a very different reaction.

Performance artist to hit UNM

by Dustin Habermann Daily Lobo Performance artist Miranda July is aiming to achieve an effect. She will be at UNM this Wednesday and Thursday at the Arts Technology Center, on Los Lomas and at Rodey Theatre in the UNM Center for the Arts. Performance art can be some pretty freaky stuff and oftentimes it's a powerfully intimate window into an artist's or audience's psyche.

This time, UNM hung around for the majority of the game before hitting a slump in the second half that it could not overcome. LETTER: Students will miss out on Trewhitt's expertise

Editor, I am a University of New Mexico journalism graduate and former Lobo staffer. I was lucky enough to have had the privilege of knowing and learning from Professor Hank Trewhitt. I remember first meeting him in a public affairs writing class and thinking, "How did the University land this guy?" Of course, that was before I knew that he was a "home-grown hero," so to speak.

EDITORIAL: First Lady delays poetry but not war

Poets and politics -- who would have thought it? After all, history has birthed poets such as Federico Garcia Lorca, who was arrested in Spain for assumed left-wing political associations. Today, Sam Hamill, the founding editor of Copper Canyon Press, was invited to a poetry symposium at the White House, organized by none other than First Lady Laura Bush.

COLUMN: Bush's energy policy lacks urgency

KRT Campus Media Call it retro-futuristic. President Bush's energy policy draws on the past and looks to the future, but skips the present entirely. In the State of the Union, the president called on Congress to pass his "comprehensive" energy package, which heavily subsidizes yesterday's technology -- coal, oil and nuclear power.
