LETTER: Business school's new exit test hurts students
October 16Editor, I am writing in response to a bombshell that the administration at the Anderson Schools of Management released to the December graduates last week. We were all notified that in order to graduate we must pass an exit test that will be administered to us in November.
COLUMN: Video games blamed for sniper
October 16Craig A. Butler Daily Lobo Columnist The Washington, D.C.-area sniper struck again on Monday, bringing the death toll of the attacks to nine. Despite the army of police and federal agents searching the area with a fine-tooth comb, there seems to be little progress in cracking the case.
TV viewers ripe for some smutty action can tune into "Real World"
October 16by Alex Tarrand Daily Lobo Hey there, run out of pretty people to fill your post-wakeup, pre-class, pantless part of your day? I know I have - at least since MTV's "Roadrulers" won their prize and left our lives until next year's reunion special. But thankfully that which created the sickness also makes quick with the cure.
Chasm very redundant, whiny
Margarita Ortega y Gomez | October 16David W. Jacobsen doesn't get any but you sure do, don't you. This is what this up and coming singer/songwriter's latest album The Chasm, has to offer. Really, this CD is intended to offer more than that, like some kind of humor toward bad relationships - but just doesn't really get that far.
COLUMN: Iraq war will make U.S. an empire
October 16by Liam Scheff Daily Forty-Niner U-Wire Today is a historic day. Congress is in a lopsided debate regarding whether to grant President Bush the sole right and power to wage a war, in the name of all of us, all of the citizens of this country, on the people, not the government of Iraq, one of the richest oil-nations in the world.
Mesa Vista door proves difficult for wheelchair-bound
October 16by K. F. Ortega Daily Lobo For UNM student Betty Parish to gain access to the computer pods inside of Accessibility Services, she must contort herself into a pretzel-like position. She carefully positions her motorized scooter to the left of the door, slowly opens it with her right hand, props it open with her left foot and inches her scooter inside while praying her exposed left foot doesn't get caught when the door shuts.
COLUMN: Some Web sources invalid
October 16by E.R. Shipp Knight Ridder-Tribune Just when black women - from rapper Mary J. Blige to tennis champ Serena Williams to some women twice their age - felt comfortable going blonde came word that blondness is facing extinction. Naturally occurring blondness, that is.
EDITORIAL: American public sets tone for most media
October 16It's undeniable - media coverage tends to be negative. The argument always comes around to the same old journalistic fallbacks, such as "If it bleeds, it leads," or some other such nonsense. Also, the media are the cause of all skewed perceptions. The media are to blame for sensationalism of the most mundane and inane topics, but also are guilty for not covering overlooked stories such as missing children and domestic violence.
Band bears markings from punk forefathers
Eric Howerton | October 16In a world of bubble-gum pop music, 1208 models itself after bands like Skrew 32 and Pennywise. It is beef stroganoff, which is conceivably the farthest existing thing from bubble-gum. How does this meat and potatoes punk band exist in the chewy, pink soundscape that is modern-day punk? And what really is the difference? Epitaph Records owner and founder Brett Gurewitz helped start one of the most catalytic punk bands of all time.

'Wrong Guy' too funny for its low status
October 16by Kenn Rodriguez Daily Lobo If you remember "The Kids in the Hall," you know the name Dave Foley. Of the five Kids, Foley was the short one. The one who could look child-like and devilish at the same time. The one - dare I say - who looked great in a dress.
UNM professor to test theory in China
October 16by Stuart Overbey Daily Lobo Richard Schaefer, a communication associate professor, will be leaving the country on a sabbatical next semester to study his theory of Chinese replacing English when digital technology replaces current Internet technology.
Kimone just another Radiohead wannabe
Marisa Demarco | October 15by Marisa Demarco Daily Lobo Everyone wants to be Radiohead. Everyone wants to be the innovative band that could. It's where whining suburban white-boy rock is going - the last valid route for a dying breed of skinny, shaggy-haired, acoustic guitar wielding youth.
LETTER: Hitler comparisons to Bush hit the mark
October 15Editor, German politician Herta DÑubler-Gmelin hit the nail on the head when she compared Bush's warfare policies to tactics used by Nazi Germany's Adolf Hitler. Spokesman Ari Fleischer finds the comparison "outrageous and unconceivable." I understand his outrage.
