Be proactive about the situation, don't complain

Editor, This is in response to Muhajir Salam, who wrote a letter to the editor about his religion classes on Monday. Mr. Salam, I am very surprised that, as a college student, you were unable to figure out that anyone other than you would know the true meaning of Islam.

Candy swap carnival to educate community

The American Medical Student Association is trading candy bars for fruits and veggies during their Healthy Halloween Carnival to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. The carnival is taking place in the Honors Forum, on the ground level of the Student Health Center, on Friday and will include a silent auction, live music and painting and games for children.

Halloween hip-hop show features East Coast artists

Garrett Briggs, a senior and archeology major, is giving Albuquerque a whole new way to celebrate Halloween. Briggs worked for about six months to create a Halloween hip-hop show, “From Dusk till Dawn,” which will be on Halloween night at Black Market Goods in Nob Hill.

Albuquerque scream spots leave grown men in tears

Having retired from one job, Dale Ervin now spends his life doing what he loves: terrifying people. “Scaring people is an awful lot of fun,” said the owner and head operator of Albuquerque’s two largest haunted houses — Primitive Fear and 13th Street Manor.

Students protest theater department

About 50 UNM students stood outside in the cold on Wednesday to circulate a petition describing their grievances with the UNM theater department. Student Morgan Harris was among the protestors in front of Popejoy.

Grant aids autistic children

The Daniels Fund awarded a $15,000 grant this month to support a summer camp for children with autism in New Mexico. UNM’s Center for Development and Disability organizes Camp Rising Sun, which serves more than 80 children ages 8 to 13 in two summer sessions.
