Lobos limber up in yoga class

At first it sounded like a tacky, made-for-TV testimonial, a way to solicit more players from the UNM football team to join in the yoga sessions held twice a week inside the Indoor Practice Facility. "You put in the work, you get the results," said UNM linebacker Jaymar Latchison.

Longer life - but do we want it?

Want to live longer? As it turns out, we may have the answer. A report in the last issue of Science showed a dramatic difference between the life span of two different sets of rhesus monkeys in a 20-year study. The results were so shocking that scientists have already begun seeking additional funding for another 20 years of research.

Lack of bus stop at Lomas sends muddled message

1993's "Rookie of the Year" beats watching the MLB All-Star Game.

I learned it all from a rookie

Watching the MLB All-Star Game is tough. Trust me. I tried. Last week's exhibition of American League dominance was, somehow, less interesting than ones prior. Manny Ramirez was absent, Ryan Howard choked, and Josh Hamilton just isn't as exciting when he's not addicted to drugs.

A smokin' good time at the Blazed and Confused tour

Some people say going to a hip-hop show is like going to church. The "Doggfather" of hip-hop came to Albuquerque's Journal Pavilion last Tuesday with a sermon that fell on more than 1,000 hungry ears. Snoop Dogg got people on their feet, singing along, and he even sang a Tupac Shakur song as a tribute to the deceased rapper.

Lobos sport retro look in new gameday threads

Apparently, in head football coach Mike Locksley's eyes, "if you look better, you play better." So in accordance with that philosophy, Locksley unveiled the Lobos' 2009 season uniforms at a news conference on Friday. The slightly modified uniforms have a more traditional, almost throwback feel to them, Locksley said.

One-stop system sacrifices students' privacy for speed

Editor, On more than one occasion, I stopped by the one-stop system, located in the old Financial Aid office, to take care of my business involving the admissions, financial aid and registrar's offices. While I admit the one-stop system adds speed and accessibility of records in a central location, I also see a larger problem developing: privacy.

U.S. must deal humbly with enemies

Is it just me, or did we trade the Cold War for a Colder War in the 21st century? We seem to have collected more enemies in the last couple decades, and worse, they seem to be getting more dangerous. Remember when our favorite rancher, George W. Bush, called them the Axis of Evil? We always need a bogeyman (or men) to prop up support for military action.

Diversity a fantasy in Russia, not a reality

Editor, Images of President Obama in Moscow bring to mind the last time I saw a picture of a black man in Moscow. This was an international student from Africa who was murdered in a racially motivated hate crime, as part of a wave of such incidents that have not stopped in Russia.
