Hello UNM student body - it is another year of academics and with that comes the athletics. Congrats to the football team for going on the road and defeating the University of Nevada Las Vegas. In case you did not know, Oct. 12 was the official day in which basketball teams across the nation started practice.
It's the beginning of February and not only is the season flying by, but so is the school year.
We escaped a well-coached and smart Air Force Academy team Monday night 50-47.
Hope you all had a fun and safe holiday vacation. During the break I didn't get a chance to go home and be with loved ones, but some of my teammates did. I did spend time with my roommate's family; I really appreciated that.
A new year brings new expectations. Our basketball team is loaded with talent and fresh faces: two freshmen - Chad Bell and Jamaal Williams - and two junior college transfers - Moustapha Diagne and Cody Payne.
What has driven our success the past three games is that we're getting hot at the right time. We have been playing with a vengeance, and that's what we'll need if we plan to make a run at a Mountain West Conference title and the NCAA Tournament.
Our recent victory over Georgia State University provided us with the momentum that we need going into Saturday's game against San Diego State University.
Monday's 82-78 loss to the University of Wyoming was real tough, but it will be something that the team can grow from. We played hard; it wasn't for a lack of effort. The Cowboys just got the best of us this time.
