ASUNM unanimously passes 2017 spring budget, allocating nearly $690,000 to orgs

On Wednesday night, the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico voted on their Spring 2017 budget in which they choose which agencies, organizations and line items will receive funding and how much funding each gets. The money for ASUNM’s budget comes from a pool of student fees that every UNM student contributes to, according to Director of Communications Gabe Gallegos. On Wednesday, the senate voted and unanimously approved the spring 2017 budget that allocates about 74 percent of the budget to ASUNM agencies and line items.

What UNM can expect in 2017 from the DOJ investigation

The terms “Title IX” and “Department of Justice” have circulated the University of New Mexico’s classrooms, boardrooms and offices since the DOJ first began to investigate the University for its handling of sexual assault and sexual violence cases. That investigation has brought changes to policy and procedure. In October of last year, UNM announced they had reached a “formal three-year agreement” with the DOJ. Part of that agreement also outlined expectations for 2017-2018.

Anonymity and Usability: A look into UNM course feedback

With the semester nearing its end, students are starting to see emails from “UNM Course Feedback” urging them to evaluate their courses and instructors from the fall semester. The email reads, in part: "Student feedback is highly valued and extremely important! Student feedback provided through course evaluations is crucial in order for Faculty to improve their instruction as well as other aspects of their courses. All responses are completely anonymous.” However, students had questions about just how anonymous and vital those course evaluations are, with UNM having transitioned from paper, in-class evaluations to online evaluation surveys two years ago.

Fox News criticizes UNM's new training program

The University of New Mexico has been no stranger to making national headlines in recent years, many of them putting the University under fire, as in the case of its handling of sexual assault cases and the campaign to abolish what is allegedly an offensive University seal. UNM was back in the headlines recently because of its updated training for employees, which places a focus on sensitivity training.
