Women's Soccer: Heather Dyche heads to Rio to assist national team

New Mexico women’s soccer Head coach Heather Dyche will be making the trip to the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio this year.

Dyche will be scouting and analyzing opponents in Rio, a UNM release stated. She is currently a national instructor on U.S. Soccer educational staff and has previously helped with youth national teams.

“It’s an incredible opportunity,” Dyche said in a statement. “I’m really proud to be able to represent New Mexico at the Olympic level.”

The opening ceremony is slated for August 5 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but Dyche and the women’s national team is scheduled to begin play on August 3, in Group G against New Zealand. The U.S. will also be taking on France and Columbia in group play.

In Dyche’s first year at the helm for UNM, she led the Lobos to a third place finish after replacing former head coach Kit Vela.
